Using 06 Searchlight Signals Properly

I just want to make sure I am using them properly.

In the below example we have double track mainline with a branch.

On the mainline I am using 4 06 Searchlight signals.

Focusing on the 2 signals in the foreground.

The left one has the straight path defined as R,L,L.
The right one has the straight path defined as R,L.

When running trains the signals indicate green/yellow over red when I'm going straight and red over green/yellow when I am taking the diverging path.

I take it I am doing things correctly then?

Is there a reason I should use 08 signals instead? If so, what would they tell me that is different?

Sometimes I think I have it all figured out, other times I get a little lost.
Most times I need to use the simplest of pictures just to make sure.

Thank you for helping the less swift. :hehe:

yes that looks correct to me.

08 signals are mainly for use when you want more speed aspects. the 06s can only display diverging or medium aspects. the 08s can do limited, medium, and restricting lunar. these are useful at complex interlockings or entrances to yards.

Cool, thanks for looking at it.

Analyzing a few other routes for guidance started to make me think I was totally not grasping things.

I guess everyone's work has an area of weakness and I'm sure mine will be no different.:hehe:

William,

What's interesting is my local railroad uses type 08s at the crossovers. I thought I was wrong when I put 06s in, so I guess either would work.

You have to remember though the AI don't always like prototypical signalling, so do whatever works and is realistic as possible. I can say the AI is a lot better in TS12 than the much older versions, but still keep this in mind.

The only real problem I have with the TS12 AI is it seems less patient then 2010. It wants to try a different path if it's stopped and waiting for a train, even if the other train is close by. 2010 AI seemed to know the path would soon be cleared. Trackmarks and "drive to" instead of "navigate to" get around that.

Other then that no problems running AI trains with the signalling as I have it currently set up.

The AI just needs the signalling to be well defined.
