Useable gamepad for Trainz 2009

Hello everybody,

What kind of gamepad functions with Trainz 2009?

Logitech precision works fine with MSTS - but no joy with Trainz 2009:(.

All working suggestions are welcome.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Kurt

AFAIK, Trainz does not support gamepads directly - you would have to use some kind of software to map the button-presses to the keyboard shortcut for each function.

Having said that, the "Saitek P880 Dual Analog" controller had decent mapping software, although I don't use it because it triggers the anti-cheat system in many of my favorite online games. I don't know if Gravis still make the "Gamepad Pro" line, but those pads had decent mapping software as well.

Thank you for replying CkThomson - In Belgium the Gravis gamepad is available on the secondhand market . You also have to buy a serial-usb connector ( connection to portable pc ).

However, something else caught my attention - mapping software.

Did some search on the www - and found Xpadder - I will look for a try-out version of Xpadder.
If a try-out is found - then try to use it with my logitech precision gamepad.

To be continued ...

I don't have a logitech pad myself, but this link might save you some money.

Software:

Title: Logitech Gaming Software
Software Version: 5.08
That should be what you're looking for.

Hey CkThomson and Trainmetal.

Thank you for anwering.

Before using Trainz 2009, I automatically installed the 64-bit drivers for the logitech Precision UG15.
The buttons do not respond when I use Trainz 2009.

I will try the program given by Trainmetal :).

Will give my review ASAP

It wasn't the Drivers I was suggesting, it was the other package offered by Logitech. Very rarely do they ship drivers with the mapping software as part of the package, as these programs can trigger anti-cheat systems and lead to false kick/ban problems for legit gamers.

Hopefully Trainmetal's suggestion works out for you - I might even try it myself (lol, then watch Gameguard/Hackshield blacklist the program next month).

Hey CkThomson,

On the Logitech website for the precision gamepad - section downloads - for windows 7 - the exe file ( multilingual 32 of 64bit ) doesn't give the mapping software option.
for windows vista - option Logitech game software - no mapping software.

:) The Joytokey program from Trainmetal is functioning for Logitech precision gamepad.

I tested the program on the Bad Schindau-Decin route - Betriebsstorung.
I don't know if the English version of Trainz 2009 has the same route.
In the Dutch version - the front screens are translated into Dutch - but several routes are kept into the original language - in this case German.

In the route the joytokey program functions in the following way -

I started the Bad Schindau-Decin route - Betriebsstorung - and I used the buttons on my gamepad . All tools ( brakes, power etc ) were reacting to the pushing on the buttons, but the train didn't move.

Then I used the option in the menu bar ( bottom level of screen - green button ) - trein rijden ( in English ride Train ? ) and the train begins to ride.

I immediately stopped the train - again using the same menu bar.

Now I use the buttons on the gamepad - and the train runs

For the moment I don't know why this is happening, a forgotten option in the program joytokey or something else?

Tomorrow - I will try Xpadder

to be continued

Hello,

Xpadder is also functioning, but I have the same issue compared with the
joytokey program. I used Xpadder on the same track.

Looking for the details in both programs and will try both programs on another route.

Till next ...

Hello,

I used both programs on the Marias pass approach - Shelby local and again I have the same results as before.

The train is running with my gamepad after I have used the taskbar within Trainz 2009. Ride train - stop train ( via taskbar or ctrl right click ) and then I can use the buttons on the gamepad.

Strange. Ah well - keep on searching till solution is found.

Till next

Unable to find a solution. Created a helpticket at the helpdesk.

Hopefully, a solution can be found. :)

Hello,

I'm still waiting for an answer from the Auran Helpdesk ( due to delays at the helpdesk ref General Trainz - Zec Murphy April 15th, 2010, 12:23 AM )

Perhaps raildriver-users can give me a solution or direct me to it.

To be continued
