USA Steam Transition Era Rolling Stock - make your suggestions.

If they're older than what you're looking for, that's the sign that they're accurate for that era :hehe: - maybe not for Curtis' stuff, considering his models are designed for the whacky west of the 1800s

Certainly some lines were running wood truss cars in the 1950's, but I want something like seen in the image posted.

Pencil42's cars (the ones I know anyway) are late 19th Century / Old West.

Truss rod cars may have been opereated by carriers in the 1950, but they were banned from interchange service in 1952, and were likely rare at that time.

For Boxcars, I mix up Whitepass' newer ones plus lilb's, and the odd Majeaker (sue me for the name wrongness) asset, especially his special ones, for named trains or the like. For flat wagons I use the F89F Oxide Red from RRMods (I think?) plus Lilb's plus an older one on the DLS, and Whitepass' 50ft Flatcar's (PRR and UP versions). For hoppers I use the one's by lilb. For coal hauling I use the NM&W (fictional, but i don't give a fig) hoppers and a NM&W 2-10-2. Ok, so I have two routes, and the NM&W Links with ATSF on one route and PRR, NYC and Reading on the other. Again, sue me. My favourite running is commuter steam (P70 coaches for the PRR etc.) and in and around passenger terminals, plus the odd 5-gajillion track yard with a 36-gadrillion roundhouse (why didn't my spellcheck pick up on those two obscene numbers?)

I like majekear's cars, libs cars and I use K&L Trainz's P70's (there free!) for commuter and some through trains. The wood reefers woud be nice along with in and outside braced wooden box cars (40'). Most of my steamers are from K&L (lucky me I love PRR).

Would love to see a PRR H21 4 bay hopper. Guess I'll have to learn blender someday.

Edit: Forgot whitepass :o he has some nice cars also.

I haven't seen any hoppers by lilb, but I'd sure love to. Where are they? The JR site has Flats, Boxes, and Gondolas but no lilb hoppers (at least not the last time I was there...)

I think that he is probably referring to the gondolas, as I have not released any hoppers, or he could be referring to Simulatortrain's hoppers.

Here's a sneak peak of one piece of rolling stock that is upcoming from me though:

Now I feel a little silly. Doing some searching for PFE box car turned up this:

Which was part of a Marx trainset I grew up with. Guess I knew was PFE stood for all along... lol

OOOO... looking forward to some 40' reefers.

I did mean gondolas, my bad. Hoppers are usually the same ones used for coal (NM&W, fictional - sue me)

I just went "shopping" and got all lilb's steam era stuff I could find. I felt like such a pig, I had to make a little donation. I'm a CNR lover, but quite a bit of US rolling stock would find it's way to Nova Scotia. Boy, that lilb makes some fine looking stuff! Thanks Brian

Cheers........Rick

can you make an actual "hotbox" effect with smoke for rolling stock?

It should be pretty easy to make a "hotbox" effect with smoke. The issue would be that hotboxes were relatively rare events, so you'd need a script to run a random number of miles, and then activate the hotbox effect. The other issue here would be, that if the hotbox was too far away, or the head end crew was not looking, (and most hotboxes in Trainz would be in a train operated by a crew of 1--the hoghead--, instead of a crew of 5--conductor or foreman, two switchmen, fireman, and hoghead, three of whom were specifically on the train to watch for problems like hotboxes--in the era when hotboxes were common) a hotbox in trainz is almost always going to result in a bogey failure, and derailment.

Morning all and frogpipe;

Hey frogpipe; I tired to pm you but can't because your "box" is full. Anyway, I have taken steps to correct the problem (I hope).

Cheers....Rick
