I post this in sporbust web site and mccall confirmed that it is a windows problem. if you want to see the error message which is long I will post it here. and hope that it can be fixed. the jet program that came with the trs06 game dvd is original and I do not know if thats the problem and need to update the jet files or what. all i know is my graphics drivers, sound drivers, has been updated. the first line in the fatal error says class: hardware if thats any hint. do I need to buy a new trs06 dvd ?please answer. :(

Hi brakemen,

Go to your TRS2006 folder and open the jetlog.txt file in notepad. Then copy and paste the last six lines before the error message and the error message.

like this:-

Fatal errors

Hi I have been having the same problem with fatal errors exept it won't even let me into trainz because the error message is coming up on the LAUNCHER
I have had the game since christmas and all of a sudden it has started having problems I have tried un-installing and re-installing but it won't work. PLEASE HELP!!!
:'(

I've been getting fatal errors lately myself as a matter of fact and never have before in the 3 years I've had the game. I've just chalked it up to some poorly made downloads from people on the DLS that causes it.

There are many causes of fatal errors in Trainz. These can be caused by anything from poor drivers, damaged hardware, or bad content.

I found that I had memory issues with one of my PC's that I used to use. All other programs worked fine except for Trainz, which would fail only in Driver and not Surveyor. I could use Surveyor all day, but as soon as I entered into Driver, the program would crash. After running some system diagnostics, it came down to either a bad power supply or the RAM. I replaced the power supply because my 1.8 V would drop down to .5V before the program crashed. In the end, a new power supply didn't fix the problem and the only thing left was either the motherboard or memory. I ran MEMTSTx86, and it found I had two bad DIMMS.

Hardware problems can also be caused by heat. Trainz is a very system intensive program, and when computers are calculating lots of things, they work harder and heat up more. Since this is summer time in the Northern Hemisphere, I would check that the computer is receiving adequate cooling. Check that your system is clean and that the fans are working properly. If you need to blow out dust, put a pencil into the fan before you use the compressed air on the system. This will prevent the fan bearings from breaking due to the fan spinning too fast from the blast of compressed air.

Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your system. They can get corrupted and can cause this problem. Also sometimes the previous driver from the manufacturers is not as good as the current one. This was an issue recently with some NVIDIA drivers. The new ones caused the computer to run slower than previously. The updated drivers solved that problem.

As someone here has said, bad content can do this too. Remove the last things that you downloaded if you can to see if this is the case. There have been some things made in TS2009, but back-revisioned to work in other versions of Trainz. This has caused the program to crash. There's a thread on this subject if you care to read about it.

As The above has said I put it down to bad content but i get errors as soon as i launch the program CMP included.
I have added a help ticket and sent it to auran and am currently waiting for some good news.

Meyshollop; try uninstalling first, then using a registry cleaner (such as CCleaner...free download from File Hippo), then reinstalling. Make sure your follow all the precise directions for installation.

If its that serious then reinstall the operating system. Registry cleaners tend to clean things they shouldn't touch.

All good

OK got trainz working again with squeaks exellent class 450 in SWT livery with liam125's exellent enginesounds

fatal error from brakemen

hello memebrs: let me say that I have read all the posts and now do not know which way to go and fix this. I can type the error message if you want me to

I'm still getting the the error message in usrveyor and in driver when I drive the same route ( for a test drive). I could type the error message if someone could help figure this out for me. heres the computer spec. gpu gddr3 nvidia 9800 gt 1gb: cpu dual core processor e8400 3ghz : mother board gigbyte ep45-dsel ddr2 1333+: 19" wide screen set at 1440X900. refresh rate set at 70. all drivers has been undated. sent to computer store they updated windows, motherboard, gpu, took compuer home went to trs06 and thats when the error message pops up in sureyor and in driver in the same layout. layout is big about 175 base boards big. while driving the same route error mesage comes up. also thesame error message in the same route in surveyor. I know the gpu is not damage, but I do not think the cpu or the motherboard is damaged ( did not check). I do know that m,y power supply is 600watts and do not know what the volts are. its not bad content because I have used the same content like engines and rolling stock in other layouts and those layouts are fine. is there a test to see if the one or more pieces of hardware the motherboard, procssor, and graphis card is damaged. I have done a disk clean up and a defragmentation but did not help. do you want me to uninstall and reinstall the game disk. aslo I think I will loose all my hard work building the layouts and all my engines and rolling stock I downloaded so I guess I have to do that all over again. question my gpu card ( ati) is set at default but I have changed that to nvidia 9800gt how do I change the default from ati to nvidia 9800 would that cause the error message and to fix this would I put the nvidia 9800gt as the default if so how would I change do this in the registry.

fatal error message from brakemen

hello members:
just a thought about my fatal error like I said in my registry it has ati graphics card as the default. but its been replaced by nvidia 9800gt maybe this should be the default. also maybe thats why I'm getting these fatal error messages. the errors messages began to appear just after I installed the new nvidia graphics card but did not tell computer to make this one as the default. the game is looking for the ati card but I have the nvidia card in its place and makeing the game go bonkers which in the resault given me the error message. maybe thats thats the answer.

I think this maybe your problem. Trainz likes Nvidia cards more than ATI and your system maybe confusing Trainz with old ATI drivers in there with an NVidia GPU so it crashes. Try setting your display option to DirectX instead of Open/GL. Have you tried this already?

If you need to remove the ATI drivers, I recommend getting some help with this. There used to be a utility to do this called the "Nasty file remover", but I'm not sure if it will work with Windows XP or Vista.

Good luck and keep up us posted on your progress.

hello members:

yes I did set the direct x back also went to my add/remove program and found something strange who ever updated my conmputer at the shop they also included microsoft net framework 2.0 sp2, microsoft net framework 3.0 sp2 and microsoft net framework 3.5 sp2. I do not know why but all I need is microsoft framework 1.1 that came with this computer. all others were downloaded by the shop which I do not need seems like to me that trs06 worked fine when I have just microsoft net framework 1.1. and when the shop downloaded all the other net frameworks thats when the error messages came up also just a thought. this is what I want to do first delete all the microsoft net framework 2.0sp2 through 3.5 sp2 this might makeing the game goes bonkers also; next look for ati drivers and delete them from the registry or memory or something. my registry has ati gpu as default how do I change to make nvidia the default? also looked at mydrive c: and has ati pgu folder so I open it and it shows this:
8-12_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_72271 ; 9-6_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu. what if I delete this and the ati folder? another thought all most all my train cars coal hoppers, grain hoppers, box cars, tankers flats ,gondolas has trainz build of 2.5 and I'm running trainz build 2.6 if so how do I change from 2.5 to 2.6. to run in my layout. and again maybe thats the answer.

I'll take this in reverse order...

The content having older build numbers is fine. TRS2006 can run TRS2004 and UTC contect without problems usually. The biggest thing with the older content is the quality isn't there like it is with the current stuff. In fact much of the built-in content that comes with TRS2006 dates back to these previous versions of Trainz. So I wouldn't worry about this too much.

Regarding the drivers for ATI. I would recommend removing them if you can. There's no reason to have them in your system if you're running and NVida card. For some reason this can cause confusion in the system and certain programs will go bonkers with the conflicting video card drivers. There's a utility called the Nasty File Remover.

Here's the link for it with a better explanation of what I was trying to say above...

Regarding the DotNet stuff. This can be confusing. You may have to reinstall Windows (recommended) to fix this. Microsoft's DotNet version don't appear to be all inclusive. Meaning that each version is diffierent and contains so-called fixes and updates, but they seem to leave out things that were coded in the previous versions. This is unlike other software where an updated version would include previous fixes and patches. With DotNet, you need the older versions because programs were hard-coded to these previous versions. I found this out the hardway myself. You can try reinstalling Trainz and see if this fixes it, but I've never had good luck once the DotNet stuff got broken.

I know that this is pretty frustrating. Keep us up-to-date on your results.

no don't delete the updates for netframe,,, I am running the newest netframe
and i had no problems, make sure your video card is up to date for the newest drivers,,,,

reply of urgent fatal error

from brakemen:

I have looked into my computer and found that a a folder contains ati drivers were still present and active. I do not know how since the ati card has been removed and all other files that related to ati card been deleted also. ( but for some reason did not delete the folder that has the ati drivers and the updates). I have deleted this folder that contains the drivers and the game seems to be working fine now.

thanks to all who replyed and give me suggestings on how to fix this :)

thanks from brakemen

reply to everyone who responded

by some reason my trs06 is working fine and I can build and run my sessions now. what I found out is this a folder that was tuck away in my computer. I found it by acceident and opened it and has ati drivers download and updates I have deleted this andtrs06 seems to work fine. by the way my next project layout is useing almost all the content buildings in surveyor such as industries, factories, useing multiple industry new. if it can work maybe theres a limit on how big the layout can be.

to all members thanks the help
brakemen

Congratulations on your success. This is great news.

There is no limit per se on the size of a layout/route. The limit is what your computer can handle with its RAM, CPU power and disk space available.

At this point, my current route is over 174 miles long not counting the side branches.
