Update for IE9

Windows shows a new update is available:

I seem to remember updating from IE8, to IE9 several months ago, and it was causing problems with Trainz ... last time I installed the IE9 update, I ended up removing the update, and reverting back to IE8.

Does anyone else remember problms with IE9 updates and Trainz.

I temporarily "hid" the IE9 update.

I noticed that also...

I was offered IE9 today, but turned it down for IE8. That will happen from time to time, but if it is accidentally allowed, you can revert back to whatever easily.

I haven't noticed any problems so far, once I had sorted out and got used to the altered screen arrangement. Trainz seems to run OK.

I forget what it was exactly, but the glitches in IE9 caused something to go wrong in Trainz ... I would hold off installing the IE9 update ... or remove the IE9 update, and revert back to IE8.

There have been posts here on the forums where the New Posts function is broken for I. E. 9 users.

The old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" may very well apply here. Why, if I have never had any problems that I know of with I. E. 8, should I upgrade to I. E. 9 jsut to get a higher score on the Acid3 test? These forums work just fine for me.

I hid the I. E. 9 update a little while back. So backyard, are you saying that I will be offered I. E. 9 via Windows Update again in the future? Maybe I need to watch my back then.

Well, yes...

I specifically do not use IE9 because you have no way to select between up to eight home pages(the little house icon on the Tabs bar). There is a drop down menu in IE8. If you click the house, all the pages load & some will time out before you get to them.

Yes, it will probably be offered from time to time. I do try different apps offered, but Windows Defender is redundant with a competent Anti Virus Software, Silverlight will happen no matter what you want(it runs Bing, Windows Live Mail, etc.).

But for that one corner I ran into, I probably would have IE9...it supports html5, Aero, HD-graphics, is faster, safer, etc.

Windows 7 is the best OS for supporting IE9, I have Vista Home Premium & am quite happy with my setup as noted.

But I do have FireFox 4 hid away, for as needed...:hehe:

"InstallIQUpdater" update available

Didn't want to start another pointless thread on "Updates" ...

Back in 8-11-2011 I found that when I downloaded 7-Zip I picked up an automatic installed Wi3 program called "InstallIQUpdater".

I am considering uninstalling this program.

It aparently allows marketers to supply you with advertisments for unrelated bloated programs and toolbars that you do not need.

I always untick the box advertisements, and suggested programs and toolbars, when downloading a PC program.

Now I am getting "A new update" is available for "InstallIQUpdater", install Yes/No. I clicked "NO" and probably will uninstall "InstallIQUpdater".

I use google chrome as my browser, never had any problems with it and its rly easy to use. Not to mention you can customise it and get rid of that boring gray frame..:hehe:

i still use ie8 as i think ie9 seems alot more sluggish too me , pages seem to laod slower and i am on fiber

Good idea. It's advertising spyware. FYI, it still should be safe to use older copies of 7zip (version 9.x) as there haven't been any reported security vulnerabilities, but I don't know when 7zip started adding that spyware dropper - I'm guessing some time around the early summer. Thus, I'd recommend anyone considering 7zip for the first time to use WinRAR instead, unless they know how to obtain older versions from reputable sources.

Although I have never seen the difference in Firefox and Google Chrome ... as IE8 has all that I need.

Upgrading from IE8 to IE9 has some flaws, and should not be installed.

I rejuvinated this old thread to discuss Wi3 and Install New Avalable Updates for InstallIQUpdater and the advertisements they try to trick you into downloading as a preferred automatic cluster package of toolbars and apps that you really do not need, as they can be discarded by unticking the advertisement offer tick box, or decline each sucessive offer.

Like I said: "InstallIQUpdater" program was automaticly installed when downloading 7-Zip.

Cascade, do you remember if you got 7zip from 7zip.com or 7zip.org? It appears .com is distributing a known-spyware infested version, and appears to have no affiliation with the actual creator if 7zip. Keep in mind that doesn't mean the one from .org is safe either.

I still use 7-Zip 4.65. It works fine for me. Who needs WinZip or WinRAR when you can use free and open-source software? :wave:

Interesting that the latest version of 7-Zip may come with spyware. Anyway, I believe you can get 7-Zip 4.65 from SourceForge here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/files/7-Zip/4.65/7z465.exe/download.
