Units again...

Looking in to an engine file on a given throttle-notch, the left column I know represents meters/second and the right column accelerationforce.

My question is - does the acceleration-figure correspond to any unit IRL such as lbs, kN or parts of hp ?? If so, which one?

Or is it just Trainz own unit for calculating the force?

The two figures represent metres/second and the latter is not acceleration force but Tractive effort in kN.

To keep the files small, you only need to have a dozen entries per notch and TRS does all the calculations for you

if you have documentations that refers to Lb/f (TRS uses kN) use this calculator to change between Lb/f and kN....

experiment with this. it takes a little getting used to at first but it works...

And just a quick help for working out gradients (if you get a map with grades that you can't simply plug into trainz...)

That makes sense as everything else is metric in Trainz. Now I've got the unit to work from.

Great links, especially the first, a very usefull conversion-calculator.

Many thanks Harry!
