Understanding the manual correctly?

Perhaps someone could shed some light on whether or not I am misunderstanding the manual as far as installing a third party loco,car or other,is it correct that in order to install something I have to use the Content Manager,but I can only make use of it if I have purchased a Ticket from Auran, and then I still have to send it through Paint shop pro etc{which I have had for years but have never used} as there is no way to directly install these things,further in the list of items in the Manager, I have noticed that many of the items shown claim there is an update available yet I {unless I have missed something} I have yet to be able to find a way to get it to update,or they are missing something,either way the Manager as is is useless to me, is this also due to the fact I do not yet have a Ticket? now before I blow a gasket here I will be the first to admit I am just an average guy on the puter, but considering I can do these things on my Flight and Sub sim's with little trouble nor do I have to have Managers,Paint shop Pro,etc which I do not seem to be able to make heads or tails out of tells me either I have gone out to lunch and do not know it or Trainz is not very user friendly unless one is a Tech or Programmer or a reasonable facsimile there of.

Yes you do need the content manager, it is a simple process.

For downloads, whether you use CM2 or any other method, if you don't have an FCT, you have to compete with all the other non-FCT holders trying to do the same thing on an overcrowded server.

It is not normal for you to need Paintshop or any other program unless you want to change the appearance of a particular asset for your own use or in the unlikley event that that asset has a texture problem. There are still assets on the DLS that need repair, this situation is being addressed at the present time.

You compare Traiz with MSFlight Sim. Trainz is a much more complex program. Trainz is friendly enough if you spend time working with it, it is not a game where most things are preset, Trainz is a hobby and repays all the time you spend with it.

Thanks Peter, I understand from what I have read about the servers and no FCT, perhaps I should reword the question,do I have to go through Aurans servers to be able to install a third party item or can I download it from the third party's site say to my downloads then from there somehow install it into Trainz,as you have probably already figured out I am new to this and I find some of it very confusing, also if that is possible will I need to send the item from my downloads to the custom folder in 09' before trying to use the manager or will it do that by itself.

Download it into wherever folder you wish. It will be in the form of a CDP file. The CDP format is what Trainz uses for content. In CM, go to 'File -> import as CDP' and locate your downloaded file. When you choose it, CM will install it into your game for use.

Should you get the odd ZIP format, then you have to unzip the file then go to CM 'File -> import as content' and choose the folder you unzipped the contents in to. CM will install it that way also.
