The steady march of progress for Valdore Trains, as the first of 12 class 478/6 units are unveiled to the public. They will be used to strengthen the fleet after the timetable extensions:
Demonstrator unit 478606 arrives at Newbury with its first ever passenger service, joined by 478319 on the rear:
The new livery in action:
The redesigned interior, based on that of the class 487, is much more subdued:
Speaking of class 487s, Valdore Trains' batch of 30 3 car class 487/1s are almost all in service supplementing class 502s on the Leadstone City network. Here 487103 and 487129 arrive at Boston junction under testing, accumulating miles and testing the multiple working and single-unit power system. In between them is Hayden Trains 487016, providing power for the set on the Wendsey lines as the 487/1s are not equipped with Pantographs:
The 487s have several advanced features such as single-unit power, which allows several units coupled together (up to 15 car formations) to take power from a single unit, and improved readability PIS screens. Unfortunately this makes them incompatible with the rest of the class 47x series (470, 475, 476, 477, 478 and 479) electrically. They can still physically couple to a 47x in emergencies, but must be dragged dead (The new 478/6s were designed to be compatible with the rest of the 47x series, as they will need to work in multiple with 477/7 and 478/3s on a regular basis, and so, although based on the class 487, do not feature some of the advanced features like single-unit power).
