Its hard to say wich one is better... Rail Simulator has better graphics, better sounds, and an overall better game engine, but lacks 3rd party content, and most importantly, the fun, you can easily get from Trainz. And Trainz is far more user friendly. I hounestly can't decide, what does everyone else think? Thanks, Tom. :)

What is the difference in price between TS2010 & Rail Simulator, or are they about the same ?

Do you have to purchase everything you wish to add to Rail Simulator ?
If so how much are the addons ?

My thinking is, not a lot of difference to look at in the screenies you posted, but when it comes to content for your wonga, which is better value.
My thinking is that the answer will be Aurans product, because of it's user donated freeware. :D

Grainger1980, awesome screenshots.

I was wondering if you could tell me where you got some of your content;
1. access steps in pic 1
2. yellow fencing on your utility platforms
3. your engineering rolling stock

any advise on the above would be brill

1. open day ladder1
2. Yellow Railings2
3. search for plasser on the dls

Hope this is what you need?

Hi All, some nice shots in here.

One of the best shots ive seen here for ages :)
Its content that makes the routes better.

Maybe in 5 years time RW will look as good apart from useing the same old crappy assets over and over again like i have to do in RW.

@ lewisner

Those are wonderful shots your posting and your route is looking amazing!!! :)

As I'm from Darlington and have spent a lot of time on the coast line. I was wondering if you will be putting this route on the DLS at some point?

Rail simulator generally has better graphics, but better sound's, i think not.
Trainz is capable of some stunning visuals even with its dated engine. Just look through this thread, while some screenshots are mediocre,(like mine), there are many that equal or surpass anything from railsimulator. Its all down to the user, some still use some very dated content on their routes, when there is far better content now available. Many also don't seem to care about texturing the landscape correctly, using just one overall texture for the whole route, this sort of thing ruins many a good screenshot, (& route).

I've had both games and RS went in the bin when I starting to realise its limitations.
Its possible to do some amazing things with Trainz.
RS is purely a simulator. Trainz is so much more and the most important thing Trainz can do that RS cant and that is,it gives the user the ability to run a railway. And not just drive a train!
And I think that TRS 2010 graphics are so superior to RS. But this will only become more obvious when the content creators start to create content for 2010. And this is already starting to happen.
And you just need to look at some of the amazing photos posted on this forum to how much better it is compared to RS.

Hi Ekin, the problem with that would be the signalling.Over the last few weeks I have upgraded most of it using TC3 signals so anyone using would need to have the TC3 signals. Also I am keen on signalling so I have cloned several of the signals and altered the Trackside Values to make them more prototypical (further from the track, nearer to it etc) thus they will not be on the DLS.But the TC3 signals are essentially Payware so I doubt if I would be allowed to upload them to the DLS.
Glad you like the shots and thanks for the compliment!
BTW FPS on this route aren't good - when I use FRAPS to record video the FPS sometimes go as low as 5!

On the subject of Rail Simulator, I bought it when it came out but (like MSTS) I gave it a good crack but eventually gave it up. I couldn't see anything particulary great about the graphics and (as with MSTS) the controls seemed counter intuitive. Fun to try though.

lewisner;641202]A pair of Claytons pass Penshaw North Junction as an Austerity takes water on the NCB lines.

Does your route go as far as The Leamside line?

Hi Ekin, it goes as far as Black Boy Bridge (first road bridge south of Fencehouses) with scenery and from then to roughly the site of Leamside station with track only and ends in a loop. The problem is that when I started it it I didn't orientate it NSEW correctly and I started at the wrong height so it is incapable of being mereged with the ECML if that is what you are thinking....:'(

Well your nearly right as regards merging. Because I'm building the East Coast from Eyrholme Junction through to Darlington and Bishop Auckland and Durham. I've nearly finished Darlington Bank top.
Your route would have been a nice add on for when I had got as far as Ferry Hill Station and the Leamside line.
But its not to be. But still your route is looking amazing. And i'm enjoying your posts!

You're in my part of the world then - I'm covering the Bishop Auckland area already (including the Durham and Spennymoor lines). The route is based in the early 1960s and uses DEM throughout.

I'm currently working on the area around Simpasture Junction, just north of Heighington. Next up is Shildon Yards.

FWIW I'm building in TC3 as well.
