ugly trains

It's actually what they call a 'booster' locomotive - hence the 'BU' designation - Booster Unit. They were designed to run in multiple behind a regular locomotive, in order to free up locos used in double and triple heading (because Australian National at the time was experiencing a locomotive shortage).

From what I understand the BUs were rebuilds from ex South Australian Railways 600 class units, with lower hoods and the cabs removed. I'm probably wrong though.

But yeah, they're damn ugly. :p

Interestingly enough, some companies (both over the pond and here in the US) rebuilt a number of "B" or "BU" locomotives into remote control units. Since there was no cab for the driver to hide in, they make PERFECT RC units. In most cases the RC receivers are built into the locomotive itself. Because of this I'm thinking of skinning a number of B units into RC units for a railroad I've built. I'm also looking at making an activity or two.

Here are some examples:

This is a one of a kind Genset used by NS: (One is completed, a second planned. A number of railroads have shown interest in the design. Built from a SW1500)

(and yes. I want one of the gensets built)

Weyerhauser rebuilt B unit. Note: No cab. (Rebuilt from a DRS4-4-1500)

BN even had one. Now it's BNSF. (Started life as a SD40-2 that was wrecked. They were rebuilt into these.)

BNSF RC units. (Technically these count since the windows are blanked. On some units the whole cab is blanked.)

Here in Germany we have some ugly stuff (mostly East German:p), but that is hands down the most hideous thing I have ever seen. Can someone build it for Trainz:hehe:?

WileeCoyote:D

What is the most ugliest locomotive you seen that you think should be in trainz?

I Disagree. I love Penn Central. I Remember those black trains with worm logos from when I was a kid. As a matter of fact, I would love to have any Penn Central asset.:udrool: :mop:

This would make a great thread in Sceen Shots to see what exactly what ugly is.:hehe:

That and it is like trying to bring back this railroad instead of in real life it is in trainz, another example of Railroad history trying to repeat itself!:o

This One?

Yikes is right, I have never seen some locomotives described above as ugly as those but now that I have seen the pictures, I believe it now!

Well, anyone can't blame them because there GE (UK) locomotives was builds in GE factory in PA. Who they was create design with UK locomotives and, deliver by Norfolk Southern railroads and, get to send to ship terminals and, head to Union Kingdom. But, maybe I can be wrong or correct..

PRR Transfer Diesel

In all my times of downloading Pennsylvania Railroad equipment, the railroads Lima Locomotive Works Transfer diesels are just plain awful looking. The cab is in the middle and I think they have two engines on both sides. The only postives are its horn, bell and speed. But apperance......NASTY!!!!!!!!! :o

Another case of personal preference. I love center cabs, and the transfer locomotives are my favorite American center cabs.
