ugly trains

All those lights remind me of the SP light package-A question about that, why on the SD40T's do they have the extra long hood lights, but on the SD45 they don't? Or is this just an inaccurate representation? I doubt it as these are jointed rail locos (Built in TS12)

While on the subject of buses, this literally is a bus body on rails. Designed by British Rail in the late 70s, early 80s, it is essentially a double ended bus body slightly redesigned to make a cheap railbus.

Also speaking of buses, the aerotrain coaches were modified bus bodies, so light passengers bounced in them.

As long as the ugly loco performed well with little maintenance, they though it was just swell.

The first two links go to the H.K. Porter page for me, but I found the pics anyway.
The loco in the first pic has pannier tanks, which are technically side tanks, I suppose. But as you can see, they are different from conventional side tanks.
The second has classic Porter proportions. I call 'em "hermit crabs" for their proportionately huge cabs. :hehe:

That UP rotary plow isn't ugly, it's friggin awesome. Never have I seen a rail machine that looked more menacing than that - wouldn't look out of place in front of the Snowpiercer train.

A "Soda Locomotive". What that means, i don't know.

D&H's own Horatio Allen. Could've used more and less streamlining at the same time to cover up those huge pipes and whatnot.

A Belgian Type #3, under "Smashing The Whyte System". Just take a loon look at it's wheels. Notice anything....odd? It's not a 4-2-2, which means it has 2 driving wheels, not 4, as the picture implies (the first 2 large wheels are powered), so that means, by using the UIC system, it's classified as a B2A (B = 4 drivers, 2 = 1 trailing (?) wheel, and A = the unpowered driving wheel).

A 1-1-2-1-1 tram. Why, France, WHY???

Steampunk indeed. A 100-foot high killing machine.

And, finally, a heavy duty train with a bulletproof cab vest.

A: Last 2 driving wheels
