ugly trains

Anyone else think that would make a great Iron Maiden album cover... Where is Bruce Dickenson these days????

Great find, would be a laugh to have something like that in trainz.... The hamster in his wheel driving the ideas part of my brain suddenly gets into gear hmmmmm.

While I'm on the subject.. what the hell is this?????

The album name suits it perfectly

Thanks, yall....

As to the link, I reckon it's something that either never existed, or was a european prototype of a tilting train that never really worked, like the APT? the styling reminds me a bit of the italian Setabello, or "Lucky 7". Dunno as to language on pic, would guess Portuguese or spanish.

Urrrgh...don't know if this was posted yet.

@kws4000
I hate the P30CH too. I just realised I forgot to post that too. Thanks for reminding me of yet another awful Amtrak locomotive that they didn't need to waste money on.

Bite me......It was Amtrak's first HEP equipped locomotive, build like many other Amtrak engines of that day, on existing frame and set of components, with a new shell.

Would you prefer it held the look of a U30C hauling passengers? Think of it as a GE version of an FP45 shell

Besides, the F40 was nothing but a box with a bunch of angles attached, the P40CH was a combination of curves. A 12 year old could design the F40 and make it look good. No effort on styling at all

I would definitely prefer the site of a U30C inspired engine hauling passengers compared to that piece of garbage called the P30CH. Granted it looks like the F40PH, but more like it's ugly cousin. The P42DC is better looking than that rubbish called a P30CH. Long live the F40PH, P32ACDM and P42DC, Amtrak's best diesels, well that and the FL9 and the E-units. I love me some cab units now. But, the P30CH is awful pile of garbage that thankfully Amtrak got rid of. The SDP40F (I think that's what it's called.) looks better compared to a P30CH. You have your opinion and I have mine, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends and put this behind us.

Personally, I think they should have used FP45's (they look better) or SDP40Fs. The pooch, the F40PH, the P32, and the P42 all look like crap.

Then again, to me a proper passenger engine is a PA-1, FP7, E7/8/9, or a REAL locomotive like a 4-6-2, 4-6-4, or a 4-8-4.

P30CH is actually one of the few Amtrak engines that had some character to them.Honestly the P40/42/32ACDMs are quite lacking in character

Well here is what the P30CH was originally going to look like:

See, this is why this thread has nearly been closed on many occasions. Its people like you who have such hatred for something, that you make others feel bad just because YOU don't like it.

I was going to build a P30CH for Trainz, but now perhaps I won't to prevent it being called "An Awful pile of garbage"

The P30CH was a nice successor to the SDP40F, it was HEP equipped, built on a tried and tested frame, with Passenger cowling added for looks

Basically, its the Same as the FP45, SDP40F, and the F40, all built off existing locomotive frames, the SD45, SD40, and GP40 respectively.

To bring a composed response to the argument, which occurs often enough in various threads, to me a lot of US locos look very similar as I'm not used to seeing them and I'm not familiar with types. I don't actually find anything offensive in the P30CH's appearance - it looks like a US loco. The U30C also looks like a US loco. Before I'm lambasted though, please consider that a lot of UK locos must look very similar to US Trainzers. For example, a UK Class 40 looks like a UK loco. A Class 37 looks like a UK loco. Both fairly generic looking to anyone unfamiliar with the types but very different to me as I'm used to them.

What should be on this thread are genuine examples of obscure looking locos and such, which are obviously strange looking, rather than the tired arguments over a slight difference in hoods, livery or 'my loco is better than yours'.

I enjoy seeing such oddities on this thread as clearly many others do which is why it's still going. Let's concentrate on "not pretty" rather than "petty".

Actually, the only reason they had to doubt the Pooches was fear of 6-axle locomotives.

I'll be making one, and that's a promise. ;)
