Tunnel Trouble (3-760x520 images)

Sorry Mezzo but you've got me stumped on this one, I think it is probably a 04/Vista issue that I have no idea about (I run XP), When I first started writing these Aliases I was using 04 and all I ever did was dump the new file somewhere in my custom folder, I never had half a route vanish afterwards.

Hopefully one of the Vista users came help you.

Sorry

Andy

Lets hope there's a solution.
I've been researching the archives again. Not a lot of praise for Vista. I can see why!
Other possible clues for the experts:
The two central grey tracks in the tunnel spline had changed position. Not quite straightened out, but not following the curve of the outer ones which are still the correct radius. The central ones are also now deleteable.
The brown track which has disappeared cannot be found via the Track tab in Surveyor. However its still listed in Content Manager so I guess its retrievable, hopefully with the rest of the missing items.
When I restarted Trainz, it loaded pretty quickly, so no sign of any files rebuilding.
I seem to remember someone advising the deletion of all chump files, which I'm trying to find in the archives, but no luck so far.
If all else fails I'll restore my last 2 weekly system backup.
Meanwhile I'll wait, hopefully and preferably, for a solution. Its amazing how much can be laid down in just a few days.
Cheers all.

Pictures of problem

Hi All.

ImageShack now working. Pictures:

1. Shows the new problem with the lost tunnel entrance and substantial lost objects. There seems no logical pattern to what has gone and whats been left. The untextured baseboard also looks strange with overlapping hatching.

2. & 3. show the chumpfiles in each of the file pathways.

Should I delete all the chump files shown??

All suggestions regarding a solution gratefully received.

I think I hate Vista.

Cheers everyone.

:D All chump files deleted from both locations...... and....

the route has reappeared in its original state - intact!! :Y:

Now, dare I play with the alias and config files  ??

I may just try!!!

But not before a new backup and loads of saved screenies, just in case I need to rebuild. (I've just put some up on European Trains screenshots).

I was seriously relieved to get the layout back in its entirety. No-ones fault though (well maybe Microsoft). A good experience as it turned out. I'll certainly not forget the process to get those "lost" files back. All part of the learning process. And everyone was helpful; all done with the best of intentions.

I do like a happy ending.

Now, where's that .txt file.............

Hi Andy,
Yes, it was a joy to get it all back!:)
I've not decided what to edit yet.
I had a look at some of the archived stuff on file editing, and am still collecting my thoughts. I might just play with the 4 track concrete tunnel first, to see how & what that does, before venturing into the more complex (for me) stuff. If I'm happy with that, I'll look at how the track change and alias files operate. By doing things bit by bit I'll hopefully understand it all a bit better and be able to use your alias file.
Thanks for your help & interest.
Cheers.

Sorted!

Tunnel is now fixed:Y:
I took on Roy's dare (after my weekly full system backup!)
Referencing Andy's file, I did things bit by bit.
I used TrainzObjectz to adjust the 4-track tunnel config file. Firstly changing the track type - immediate success there! The grey track?? - everthing went brown, in the best possible sense (unlike last week!)
I then tried editing the 4 tracks into 2, as per b) in the earlier posts. No good. My right hand line was connecting to the middle of what was now three tracks - strange!!
Ah. Train on the line! Train removed........ no change!
Disconnected track from platform to tunnel........ no change!
Disconnected track leading out from other end of tunnel..... no change!
Deleted the tunnel completely. Relaid tunnel ...
Reconnected tracks. Bingo...:Y: :Y:
Thanks Roy, Andy & Ben for all the advice. Got there in the end.
