TUME’s Simulation of “The Milwaukee Road”

lol, Tume, I think you're a higher priority to the folk's at N3V then you give yourself Credit for.... I think if you had a Horn sound ready to go and sent it to them today they'd have an update to the DLS, if not by the 15th, then within a few days after. Though on that note (Not having looked at your locomotives this closely yet), if the asset is a separate horn sound like most locomotives, all you really have to do is give it the next highest version number, and obsolete the current one, upload to the DLS on your own, and it'll be taken care of for all users automatically.... Just a suggestion ^^.

After that, do you ever plan to release that wonderful looking Bi-Polar in your Tag?

MLW hosted a variety of "Tug/Push-o-War" Contests soon after the completion of Electrification of the Coast Division to demonstrate the power of their new Bi-Polar Electric Locomotives. The Top Picture is taken on the largest Bridge in Snoqualamie Pass (Still standing today), and was staged for press in general. 1x Bi-polar pulling 2x Steam locomotives pulling for all their worth backwards, story goes it pulled em right to the other side of the bridge.

The Second is taken in Kent WA, and was a Pushing contest (Far more common, and done almost everywhere there was a station in a town of a certain size or larger). This usually involved just 1x Steamer, but of course the Bi-Polar won every time.....

I've always liked the Bi-polar locomotives, they have a certain character no other locomotive to date that I've seen quite captures. Helps that I was Born in Renton, and grew up initially out between Covington and Maple Valley, a 5 minute drive away from the former MLW Mainline (Though MLW was long gone by then).

Route's Looking good. Hopefully when better lookin Douglas Fir's and Western Red Cedar's become available (IF ever, *Crosses fingers*), you can update the trees on your route too, that would make it absolutely incredible with the right vegetation. Though I'm less familiar with the particulars of Idaho/Montana then I am of Washington.

Good Luck,
-Falcus

Had to come back to add. After seeing those old pics went and did some digging. The Kent Push-o-war was between the Bi-polar and a 2-6-6-2 sometime in 1920 apparently.

Also, I keep telling people about how crazy crowded real estate in Seattle is for the railroads (Mostly). Sometimes I site a story about a yardman that got "Scraped" off the side of a Boxcar he was trying to bring to a stop by a car on an adjoining track, simply because he was on the SIDE Endlatter and not the END endladder..... I kept mis-placing the URL for the site with that story (And MUCH MUCH more MLW Memories from around Washington). It was written by a guy that was there and worked for them in the day after electrification.

Well, I finally found it again:
http://www.mrcd.org/survivin.html

That particular page has the story I mentioned above, but be sure to read about Snoqualamie Pass as well as any of the other links along the top right side of the page that interest you. Its quite an informative site about MLW Operations out here on the coast division, the corporate culture they had during that time (Or lack of such?).

@ gordon412:

The sound object is one of the sound assets made by Bossman (kuid 52682).
I don’t know the exact name of that sound asset and I am not in front of my Trainz-PC at the moment. But you can grab the asset to find out its name inside TS2010 and you will find it at the DLS.
Note – you will need to activate searching down to the TRAINZ version – its below UTC :-)

About the horn sound:
Yes, as Falcus wrote, this will be something to be done later. At the moment its too close to the final day I guess. I even have wishes to get something improved at my both routes inside T:ANE and I will see if its possible or not. But later on I see a possibility to apply a better horn sound to my Joes inside T:ANE by using the DLS solution like suggested by Falcus :-)

@ Falcus:

I answered your question about the electrics (including the EP2) at the T:ANE thread already :-)

But I just paste my text in here as well:

These electrics still needs a lot of attention too. As I started creation of these locos in back 2005 or so, I messed around with the mirror function in gmax and double sided texture materials. BTW: I unfortunately did the same at the 4-8-4. Now I know this is not a good way to create things and furthermore it causes problems about applying normal maps.
Mainly I need to solve these problems and then I need to create the driver cabs, the normal maps and the season change Support.

Eventually I need to answer the question when these locos should be released. The EP3 only served at the Montana Division, but just until the late 50's. The Bi-Polars came over to the Montana Division in the 50s.
Now my Aver - Drexel - Route (and later the Avery - Alberton - Route) will represent the early 70's. So we would need the Avery - Alberton - Route in its appearance during the 50s. In all cases I would like to finish the Avery - Alberton - Route first befor I continue working on the electrics. Perhaps it will be not a too big portion of work to put the Avery - Alberton - Route from the 70s to the 50s once the 70-version has been finished. This would create the possibility to release this route (Avery - Alberton - Route - 50s) and the electrics in a bundle together with the reworked passenger cars :-

Now I hope you know :-)

Thank you very much about the link – I will need to follow it after work (I am still in my office).

About the EP2 – steam battle:
I actually began to think about the possibility to create such a battle in trainz to take a video from it – years ago!!!
The plan was to reskin two of the steam locos created by Ben Neal – just for the video, not for release. I already found how I can make the wheels moving backwards at the steam locos. Unfortunately I discontinued to put forward in this matter as other things came across. But one day … :-)

I found several sounds made by Bossman and I believe that one or more of these were used on your route:
These were uploaded to the DLS on the 2nd of February 2011 and are for Trainz 2009 SP4/Trainz 2010:

Tume I must say out of all the built in routes for TANE, yours is the one that Im looking forward to the most, I would like to say Thank you for all your hard work you done for all of us people in the Community to make the Milwaukee Road Shine again. I tip my hats off to you. :):D:wave:

Oh - thank you very much for your nice words and your compliment.
Besides the Milwaukee Road there is actually another project from me inside T:ANE as well. It's called Season Town Northern Rail Road. Once started as a test layout just to see how my new seasonal content looks like, it grew up to a full project for its own.
And there are two main things I would like to forward to the users. First I hope that everybody will enjoy to play the eight sessions coming along with both routes.
And secondly, I like the idea that people may use my seasonal content assets to push up their own phantasie and to create their own seasonal routes. Now people does not need to make the decision in which season their route should appear.

I think I've actually asked you about 3 times or so now over the years, but I always seem to forget or not see the answer. Apologies for that.

As for the era of the route. I don't think myself or many others would mind too terribly. The EP-2's lasted into the very early 60's on the Montana portion of electrification, and for our hobby a 10 year difference really isn't that big (Having seen 4-4-0's running on modern routes and what not, you can lead the user's to water, but you can't make em drink). The EP-2's in particular are so Iconic I think just having them available would exponentially increase interest in your routes, Simply because they were such unique beasties. But I understand and respect that you want to finish your Route expansion first, and of course anything you do is up to you after that.

:-)
Yes sometimes it's possible to miss an answer - no problem. I know what you mean and I will see what I will do after finishing the Drexel-Alberton section.
The Alberton - Avery - Subdivision as one route will make better sessions possible as Alberton and Avery used to be crew changing Points.
And I agree that eventually it would be a good time to release the bundle of all of the MILW-electrics within that subdivision.

Hallo,

today I found something I haven't seen before.
Thank you N3V for creating this nice clip :-)

MILW S3 4-8-4 (in development) on a test run in Trainz: A New Era

TUME's Milwaukee Road S3 4-8-4 (in development) on a test run at the Avery-Drexel-Route of the new Trainz: A New Era (T:ANE) railroad simulator by N3V-Games. Still the 4-8-4 locomotive needs to be completed but you can already enjoy Trainz: A New Era.

Very nice, Tume. It looks done and ready except for the disappearing drivers. Just one question, why does she have TWO whistles on the top?

The original loco has got two whistles as well. If you search for MILW 261 pictures you will find some pictures indicating the two whistles.

Unfortunately the loco is not even nearly done.
Mainly the 4-8-4 still misses a workable driver cab. But in addition to this there are a lot of other things requiring a lot of work. There are the need of texture optimisation. Back in 2006 I messed around with a lot of double sided surfaces in gmax - this should be changed for performance reasons. Unfortunately this will create a lot of work. In addition to this I need to add normal mapping, LOD-technique and of course season change. Also a lot of script controlled features needs to be implemented, as there are random running numbers (except the heritage 261 which will have to be a asset for its own with a very shiny surface), animated air hoses as well as coal and water consumption and refill.

I'd recommend talking to the K&L guys, Stevelerro and Wgkandsk. They are experts on those subjects.

I have updates on the real 261.

They removed the mars lights move the bell to the center on the fire man's side they put Judy A Sandburg Pres Steve Sandburg mom and one of the Railroad Heritage of Midwest America RHMA biggest members past away in 2014

She just doesn't look as good as she did before. She needs her mars light back.
northpoleexpress.jpg

For some reason, the mars light looks good on her, but doesn't look good on UP 844.

Hallo,

Thank you for that information. Looks like I will need to create even more versions from the heritage 261 as well. Does somebody knows when the MILW introduced the mars light back in service times. Because at the photos I found from the S3 during its service time the mars light has already been there.

Thank you.
