Tumbalumba - Joining?

Vern

Trainz Maverick
With my interest in Australian routes I decided to check out the Tumbalumba route (it was one I considered making before spotting it had been done already) but see it comes as a kit of three sections.

Just wondered how easy are they to merge? Is each section ready to slide in next to the other or is some trimming of baseboards required first?

Also supplementary question, what Australian locos do we have in or available for TS2010 which are to TS2009/TS2010 standards?

First off, it's Tumbarumba, not Tumbalumba, just so you know.:p

Second, the routes are easy enough to merge, however detailed intsructions, as well as trouble shooting for issues encountered can be found: Simply search 'Southlines' on the forums. There are a few threads, and I believe a link to a map for easy reference (not sure if link is still active.)

The three Tumbarumba sections can also be merged to a number of other routes to give a significant chunk of Southern NSW. These are created by Pgibbons and Tomtre(?) Again a search for 'Southlines' will lead you in the right direction.

As for rolling stock, users' Davido and AD602000 have a fair amount of content suitable for the above-mentioned routes on the DLS. AD602000 also has some content here, at Victrainz. (Free registration required)

Other than that, I cannot think straight at the moment, so others will be along to fill you in on what I have missed (quite a bit:o), and you should soon have a sizable Aussie loco stud.;):D:D

Cheers, from Down Under,

Matt.

Sorry about the spelling error... :'(

I'll check out the Southlines thread for some information then.

Postscript:

All three sections joined up - very easy, just slide in together. I had to go through and reconnect the interactive stations and touch up the areas around the joins, link track, fence and road etc. but no more than 15 mins work.

Very good route, atmospheric and certainly from the cab some clever use of scenery disguises the fact in many places it is only three or four boards wide.

I cheated and used the Chinese GE and rolling stock for my first drive but, hey, that's what the imagination is for.

One map for the northern end but not Tumbarumba

Someone else may have the URL for the Tumbarumba region.

I've been slowly adding a few more bits with Wagga Wagga, Junee and the Hay branch. Latter took a bit more working out where the joins were and I realised last night I needed Junee to link the Hay line onto the main-line. However once that's done I'm looking forward to taking a train all the way from Hay to Tumbarumba. Better include a couple of sleeping cars in the consist as it will be a long journey.

As an aside, does anyone know if there is a gradient profile available for the Tumbarumba line (I was thinking it might make for a good project in, ahem, a certain other sim) and I was also wondering whether the speed limits are (were) quite as high as posted? 80km/h seems a bit fast for some of those curves and I found myself dropping to about 60 km/h for (virtual) comfort.

Southlines Routes

Been away for a while so missed this post before.

Vern.
the list above is a good gulde, Ulan2Southlines is not part of the full list, and Southlines 3c is an early version so also not needed.
The full list is summarised below.

Southlines Four: Main NSW southhern line from Harden to Cootamundra, and the branch line through to Young and Maimuru.

Boorowa Branch: main southline from Harden east to Galong and the Boorowa branch.

Monteagle: branch line from Maimuru north to Bendick Murrell

Weddin: Branch line from Bendick Murrell north to Cowra and the Grenfel branch.

Tumut Branch 1 2 & 3: The Tumut branch line from Cootamundra to Gundagai, Tumut and Batlow.

Bethungra: Main south line from Cootamundra to Bethungra.

Junee: Main south line from Bethungra to Junee

Wagga: main south line from Junee to Wagga.

Hay branch Lines : Hay branch from Junee to Yanco & Leeton

Leeton to Griffith; branch line through to Griffith

Tumbarumba Branch lines: Join the main south at Wagga

Wagga to Henty: main south line

Kywong branch: joins the main south line at Uranquinty.

Lines to the Lachlan: north from Cowra to Blayney.

There are also some other NSW themed lines available which may be merged but need major work to achieve this.
Henty to Rand
Westby
just make sure you check all of the track connections to Stations xings etc, as you do the merge (depending on what version of Trainz you have)

Yes I'm really getting into this! Even if I can't run TS2010 on the laptop for development I can certainly enjoy a good drive on the desktop.

Think the next one to go in will be the Tumut branch - the NSWrail.net website indicates this was closed some time ago and in real life has been obliterated in certain places. One of the joys of trainsimming is the ability to recreate the past. Browsing the NSW site it appears there was a further branch to Kunama off the Tumut, not sure if that's included in the collection?

Hi Vern,

Good to hear your enjoying the exploration of NSW via the rail network :hehe:

There are a number of threads on "Southlines" and Peter's great additions, plus the contribution from other route creators such as bearcat245. I have most of the possible routes merged with the only 2 not merged requiring a fair bit of work to "adjust" them. The whole route merged is huge and one of the advantages of everyone's (especially Peter) contribution is the use of basic detail for the time period. If more detail was added to the small "cities" and towns then it may not be possible to merge them all together unless you had a supercomputer.

I did discovered a problem with merging the Tumut series (and Southlines). I reported it to the Helpdesk and to Peter who all found the same problem. I found a solution to this problem and merged them successfully and Peter gave me permission to pass on this "merged" section. If you discover any problems then please contact me (via PM or email) and I will help you out.

These routes not only give you a great view of NSW but also the ability to add your own "style" to them. I rebuilt the Airport at Wagga and other smaller centers and now have Aircraft (from Vulcan) flying between them.

Have fun,

Craig

Yes I have changed the track to something more pleasing - well the NSW style built in to TS2010. Was hoping to substitute the Romanian track but can't grab the download from their site at present.

Re my query about the gradient profile(s) after a bit of scouting around I found the zip file on the Railcorp site and that includes Tumbarumba and Tumut. Saves Aus$59 for the book from ARHS. So inspired by my TS2010 experience something might emerge in a few months in the "other" sim, though it could never better what's been achieved in Trainz.

I have a slight issue n that none of the Tumut routes will open in Surveyor without causing TS2010 to CTD. Any ideas?

I've rebuilt the database but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Yups, that's the problem.

The way I got around it was to open them in 2004 and then save them. I then imported them into 2010 and they worked.

As I said if you need help PM me with an email address or email me.

Craig

Downloading into TRS2006 instead now. I'll join them and export as suggested.

Edit:

Up and running. I take it the Tumut branch is slightly condensed in running length as opposed to Tumbarumba which appears to match the prototype?
