TS2010-SP2: a Question to Auran.

Good grief, people on this forum are never happy. They insist that Auran needs to release updates or else the world will end, then when they do release updates, and they have the tiniest problems, suddenly the world is ending again. I swear you don't get this kind of nonsense in the communities of the other train simulators...

Most of us have had no problem with SP2 at all.

Hi again

I have reinstalled 2010, patched to SP1 and then to SP2 with no problems. Yesterday the patch to SP2 took an hour and fifty minutes. Today after 2 hours it hadn't got a quarter done so it would seem that the patching process yesterday got corrupted somewhere along the line.

The bad news is that I have started reinstalling my content and am having problems with file access errors. I'm getting dozens of them and have had to make up to seven attempts to get some files to commit. At this rate it will take me a couple of months to get everything back to where it was before the patch. I had hoped that this problem would have been corrected with SP2 but it seems to have made it much worse.

Regards

Brian

Downloaded SP2 the day it was released.
It took about a minute, and I was ready to go.

Decided I wouldn't install it just yet, and would wait until I could spare the computer for a few hours.

SP2 is still sat in my download folder waiting for me to use it.
I might just leave it there, and continue using TS2010 SP1.
I don't use Speedtrees (I've actually removed the Speedtree DLL file, so speedtrees aren't allowed to run in my Trainz :) ), so I can pretty much do without everything SP2 has.

I've had too many years where Trainz wasn't fun to use any more, and now I've got TS2010 working well, I'm not prepared to go down that road again.
Especially where CMP is concerned.

My sympathy goes out to those who have to reinstall to get back to where they were.

Smiley.

I believe the main cause of this is anti-virus scanners that are set to 'check on write', not really much Auran can do about that (other than change their database format so that anti-virus programs don't try to scan it).

Yes, you are right, I also had trouble with the assets after doing a straight install of SP2 onto the previous version. After several extended database repairs everything is now 100% as it was before. Just be patient, it will sort itself eventually, John.

I followed the suggestion of Schouten and I have reinstalled TS2010. First the game, then SP1 and SP2 Last bust not least my local content. Now TS2010 works ok again. No faulty content.

I noticed that there are two maps for local content: "local" and "original". The last one is new for me. If you forget to back up the map "original" you loose content !!!.

I also tried to make my own region. But still no cars on the road. Is this fix not realised in SP2 ?:'(

the patch is taking forever to complete on my system - it's like 5% done and it's been 20 minutes, so something is no doubt wrong. It says its in the 'unpacking' stage, so I don't think it is still downloading.

The progress bar doesn't really reflect the time remaining. It will move at different speeds depending on what the patcher is doing.
Hallo,

I patched from 41615 to 42203. Just downloaded the patch file to a location at my hard disk. Than I double clicked the “41615_to_42203.exe” in explorer and the patch started.
Wreeder is right saying the progress bar doesn't really reflect the time remaining. If you run the patch beside the Task Manager Window indicating the Processes, you will see, that the JA-Converter needs the most of the time and while the JA-Converter works, the progress bar doesn't move on as you may expect. I cant tell how long I have been waiting. I started the patch before dinner and it was successfully completed thereafter.

:)

Have fun playing with TS2010.

Hi NikkiA

Thank you for the heads up on virus file checking. I switched it off after disconecting from the internet and have only had a couple of file access errors since. Fortunately I am retired and although the trashing of my installation has been irritating I have the time to sort it out.

I am surprised that there are so few issues with the new patch. Before I retired I worked at a company that had 300 identical computers each with identical software. Whenever some new software was rolled out there would always be a handful of machines that refused to work correctly for no obvious reason.

Auran have issued a patch to tens if not hundreds of thousands of customers across the world. The sim is being run on a multitude of machines with widely different specs and each installation is different due to the enormous number of combinations of downloaded material. It would be impossible to get it right for every machine.

While it is annoying if yours is one of the few corrupted patchings I think that Auran deserve some credit for getting it right for so many customers.

Hallo,

I agree with you – Auran did a great Job. If Auran could tell us, which PC's and Graphic Cards and driver would perform TS2010 best, would be nice too. I would consider such recommendation when I would go for a new PC.

They can't tell you exactly every PC because there are so many different combinations of motherboard, processor, manufacturer, software, etc. In my case, I run a below-minimum spec computer because it runs offline and I don't need anti-virus and anti-spyware software and the OS is nicely tweaked. Then again, I have a dozen other computers in my home with which I can connect to the internet.

If you would like recommendations, though, I can give you a virtual shopping list, if you're up to building your own rig.

Hi All

Please try the following:

First, start Content Manager and then do an Extended Database Repair.

Now, close Content Manager, and press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Now go to the 'processes' tab and locate the TADDaemon.exe process and wait for it to disappear/finish. Do NOT end process it, as this may cause issues with the database and may damage assets.

Now, once the TADDaemon.exe has disappeared, run Content Manager again. Now enter the filter 'Faulty = True' + 'Builtin = True'. This will show the items marked as faulty that are built-in. Now press 'CTRL' + 'A' on your keyboard, then right click on one of the items and go to the 'view errors and warnings'. This will go through ALL of the selected items, and should remove any items listed.

If some items do show actual errors, right click on them and then click on 'Revert to Original' once all of the others have cleared. This should then revert them back to a full 'built-in' status, and will hide the errors.

Please also try setting built-in = false, and do the same. This will clear any incorrectly 'faulty' marked assets that aren't built-in.

This is what worked on my installation of Trainz, which was not a clean install (it also had a fair bit of content installed).

I think I'll leave SP2 in my downloads folder a little while longer, but it's good to see you on top of it Zec.

Let's hope it does the trick for those having problems.

For what it's worth I put SP2 over a fresh install of Build 41622 (includes SP1) - took about 90 minutes to patch with zero content issues...

Andy

Ditto- though mine took 2.25 hours with about 250 content issues. Did an Extended Database Repair in Content Manager and all was well after that.

taddaemon.exe is a pain though- it bogs my system right down and you have to wait through its process, otherwise you'll damage assests and the database if you End Task in Task Manager. It frequently kicks in as you edit custom routes- freezing you in your tracks (pardon the pun) for a few minutes until it completes its task. :'(

100% agree on this. I sure hope someone is looking into this. What does it have to do during a Surveyor session that is so important? More important than me wanting to save?

Maybe Auto Save, I don't use Auto Save and don't get any problems with Taddaemon.

Err, 'save', TADDEAMON is, I believe, Auran's attempt to split the content management from the trainz front end, and when you save, it's actually TADDAEMON that is doing all the work of producing the soup and asset store.

Thus trainz and CM3.x are front ends to TADDAEMON, in future, I believe this will allow Auran to update TADDAEMON for older versions of trainz without requiring massive SPs to change the internals, thus allowing them to avoid the mess of trying to support 2004/2006.

Not sure that Save is triggering TADDAemon. When I get the error after trying to save, if I wait a minute or two, a second attempt to save will work. It appears that TADDaemon was locking some files the first time because it was doing something, then when it was finished, the locks were released and I could save as if nothing every happened.
