TS2010 not running smooth

I have TRS 04, 09 and 10 on my Dell PC. it has an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz, 4GB Ram, Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset, Microsoft Windows 7 (6.1) Home Premium Edition (Build 7600) 64 bit, DirectX 11 and a 750GB SATA Drive.

04 and 09 run good except for RBR Dual Layout, I need to be in external camera and directly above the loco to run smoothly, (makes it hard to look ahead on the track!). I can't even watch it in cab mode it jerks so bad.

In 2010, the built-in sessions won't run smooth even when I'm on top of the loco. I imported the AAD6 Hump Yard from 04 and it ran a little better, but, still jerky.

Any help to smooth things out would be greatly appreciated.

Trainz 2010 requires much more beef than the older versions.

You didn’t say what video card you have, which is the important one; you need a good video card for TS2010.
I have an Nvidia GeForce GTS250 and I think that’s only just good enough.
As most of these newer cards need a separate power supply, if your machine hasn’t got one you may need an up to date power supply as well.

You didn’t say what video card you have, which is the important one; you need a good video card for TS2010.
I have an Nvidia GeForce GTS250 and I think that’s only just good enough.
As most of these newer cards need a separate power supply, if your machine hasn’t got one you may need an up to date power supply as well.

I'm no expert on hardware but I think this is an integrated graphic chipset.

Trainz 2010 puts more load onto the graphics processor and therefore (basically) requires a dedicated graphics card as opposed to integrated for reasonable performance.

If I am correct and if your computers Power Supply Unit Unit (PSU) can take the load (Dell PSUs can be a bit low powered but are generally capable of a little bit more than their rating) then adding a dedicated graphics card, for example an ATI HD4650 will give a significant improvement for a smallish outlay.

(Note: Some people may say get an NVidia card - I used the ATI card as an example because it has low power requirements).

The rest of your PC specs seem OK.

You could try switching between OpenGL and DirectX in "Options" and see if this makes any difference.

Also if you are running Trainz in "Compatibility Mode" as opposed to "Native" this will slow things down.

I currently have an ATI HD 5770 1GB installed it offers kick@$$ performance ..with 8gb of RAM in my system and a quad-core to boot

Ive been looking at graphics cards to get and after many weeks research, I think the best value right now is:

but as someone mentioned, it does require a power cable from your PSU - and the PSU needs minimum 500W. a gamer PSU 650W is about £35 from CCL too.


Just need to wait for payday!

I purchased an Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT with 1gig and all is working good.
I'm going to increase my ram to 8gigs, too.
