TS2010 - Graphics Glitch (Screenshots)

Hello.

Just joined the forum today and I am in my second day of using this amazing program. It truly is amazing. But I am having some difficulty with the graphics of the game.

First off I should mention that I am running Parallels Desktop with Windows XP SP2 installed. So technically this game is being run on a Mac.

The technical specs of the Mac:
Processor - 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo
Memory - 4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics- nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB

In the game options I have turned down all the graphics to their lowest limits but I am still getting this:

Not quite sure what it is and how I would go about fixing it. Just looking for some helpful insight.

Thanks.

Hi JohnDoe57,

First, welcome to the trainz forums. As for the graphics problem, it could be either of about four things. Try changing the rendering from Directx to openGL or vice versa. Check for the latest drivers for your graphics card.
Find out if you can update your parallels desktop to Win XP Sp3.
And IMPORTANT, did you install Trianz with an antivirus program active, if so you might have to uninstall then reinstall with the antivirus switched off or de-activated.

Cheers,

try changing your sky setting in the environment panel,
the best man to tell you what you need to do would be ether Amigacooke, or Wessex_Electric_Nutter. there the best bet with a Mac.

It's probably parallels that is the cause - it involves emulating the video card as I remember it, rather than raw access like you get with Bootcamp.

I suspect that all of the mac trainz users are using it via Bootcamp, and you'll probably find it works fine that way.

Sorry NikkiA, I forgot you are a Mac man.:o

I had similar problems using Virtualbox under Linux with any graphics intensive game, the video under most emulators is as you say emulated, if it's anything like virtual box you may be able to increase to amount of memory used for video which may or may not improve things, I gave up on emulators and Windows, easier to dual boot if the only thing you use it for is games.

Wow! You guys have offered lots of great help! Here is some more info:

OpenGL = the game crashes
DirectX 9 = the game works fine (except for the graphics problem)

I had been running Parallels with 2GB of RAM from the first launch. Perhaps I'll use Boot Camp instead with SP3.

EDIT:
Boot Camp went bad and now I'm looking at having to completely erase my HD and start over. Oh well. It will be a while without TS2010.

I have tried running Trainz with Fusion, but the overhead of the system was too high to be much use. Booting into Windows through Bootcamp is a lot less pain in the long run. Good luck. :)

I'm not a mac woman, I used to be a long time ago though, and have somehow managed to keep aware of things like parallels and bootcamp :)
Woops… my apologies again, I keep forgetting there are a lot of very intelligent ladies that roam this forum. Sorry forgive me for being a bit of a male chauvinistic pig ....serves me right for not thinking, I guess. :o

Okay so now I am going to try to defrag my HD. This process could take anywhere from 5 to 10 hours.

Once that completes, I'll give Boot Camp another go to see if I can install XP.

EDIT:
I ended up just erasing my HD all together and all is well in the word of TS2010! XP is running fine and TS2010 runs flawlessly!!! The problem was most likely SP3 or Parallels. Thanks for the help everyone!
