TS12 Corrupted .ja Files

I bought trainz 12 from the simulator central store the other day and have downloaded nearly everyfile twice and restarted my computer multiple times, but every time I try to install trainz I get a:

" TS12d.ja" is corrupt.

I have re-downloaded the setup 2a file twice and the setup 2b file three times. Every time I run the installer I am confronted with the "TS12d.ja is corrupt." Ive even skipped the "TS12d.ja" and every successive .ja after that is corrupt to. I am very frustrated at this point as each of of the downloads save for the setup.exe run around an hour to an hour and a half to download. And thats one at a time, not all at once. I am lost as to what I am to do. None of the file sizes are right nor checksums when compared to the simulator central's link here:

As ive said ive downloaded everything nearly twice and nothing seems to change. all of my file sizes remain the same and so do my checksums.
Any and all help is requested.

You can also receive this message if you have faulty RAM or a faulty HDD, because the file can be corrupted "in memory" even if it's fine on disk.

I'd suggest that you contact Helpdesk with this issue (link above.)

Win7 HP? Try running the setup as administrator, that's right click Run as administrator, note even if you are the administrator still try that.

I have been running the installs as administrator under the administrator account, with Avast completely disabled.

I also do not believe it is my hard drive or ram my good fellow as I have not had one bit of trouble from this pc nor anything appear on my monthly disc check. As for the ram Im sure when Im stressing my pc to the max with autodesk's 3ds max program, photoshop, and or my video editing software any faults there should surely express themselves no? I've never had any abnormal behavior out of this pc. Other programs install without a hitch too, for instance, I installed Bioshock 2 on my pc not 2 weeks back. And in the last 2 or 3 days ive installed some more software without any hitches.

If it comes down to it Ill go searching for the old ram stick I have tucked away but with all due respect, its honestly the last thing I want to do...

I went ahead and sent a ticket in to sim central but I dont expect to have a reply for a week or two...

You're quite likely right, but the only way to rule it out for sure is test it. Every now and again we find someone whose computer works fine for "every other use" but fails a memory check.

Hopefully helpdesk can come up with some other suggestions that are simpler to try.

kind regards,

Kevin16c,
You are not alone! I am having the EXACT same issue. Have had a help ticket in for the past 3-4 days. No joy. Last contact from the help desk, they asked me to verify my file sizes. They are the same as yours. Still waiting on their follow up to the information. Below is a related post, and the text from one of my help submissions. Good luck and please post if you find the issue. I will do the same!

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?106912-TS2012-Install-Problems

"Ok. Long night. I have downloaded all the files at least twice, and have attempted several installs. They install fails every time at the point where it is attempting to copy ts12d.ja. The error reports that the source file is corrupt. My research on the forums point to the fact that the downloaded source file (2a.bin?) is the issue. I am attempting to download this file from Simulator Central again. Is there any way you folks can verify that all the source files for the TS12 digital download are in fact intact and not corrupt? I am getting frustrated to say the least, but am trying to hang in there.

BTW, I am running the install as an administrator every time if that is a possible question for me."

Being as the file sizes are different than the ones that simulator central has in their trainz faq, I wager they have updated their source files to reflect TS12 SP1 and indoing so corrupted them as I cannot under any circumstances get trainz to install. I have even attempted installing on another pc of mine within the last hour or so and cannot get past ts12d.ja

What method are you using to download the files? Reason I ask is because if you are using a download manager, these have a habit of causing this at times if the connection is not stable (and also, N3V do not advise using a download manager).

+1 - do they take us seriously?

Morning guys,

I can report the same issue as you are experiencing inability to install the code released from the vendors site - purchased this morning. I do have 1.5g unlimited and can verify there was not one byte different from the two downloads of 2a.bin

28/11/2013 09:22 1,565,429,632 setup-1a.bin
28/11/2013 10:26 1,566,000,000 setup-1b.bin
28/11/2013 11:03 1,566,000,000 setup-2a.bin
28/11/2013 09:45 1,566,000,000 setup-2b.bin
28/11/2013 10:37 723,494,599 setup-3a.bin

The modern browsers all do error checking - as does the OS on write so your issues are highly unlikely to be as reported by support.
There is an issue with the files we are using.
Period.

Shane,
I tried them both, using a download manager and not. I still have some tries left on my downloads although NV3 already reset them once. If I have some patience left and not too full of turkey later today, I may try downloading again without the manager. I will report back on my results.

One person having problems could be anything, however three having the same problem points to an issue with the file or maybe the server, I'm aiming towards server due to the problems some are having downloading DLC in the last week or so. Lets hope the right people see this thread!

They are hosting the files on AmazonS3 - which does global replication - so the issue could be isolated to a corrupt instance in say Ireland as opposed to APAC (where they are originate from) - pure speculation though without any access to the data myself to investigate further - FYI if I hit "ignore" in the installer (just for kicks) it reports that 12e and 12f are also duff.

Using some compression algorithm knowledge - its straight forward enough to see that the problem extends beyond one .bin file.

Just for kicks - I downloaded the same file again using "free download manager" - just to prove it make 0 difference compared to a "browser download" (which is the recommended way).

FC.exe = built in windows file comparison tool/
B switch = do a binary comparison.

>fc /B setup-2b.bin d:\setup-2b.bin
Comparing files setup-2b.bin and D:\SETUP-2B.BIN
FC: no differences encountered

Problem = source file.

Interesting that these files are precisely the same size. . .

28/11/2013 10:26 1,566,000,000 setup-1b.bin
28/11/2013 11:03 1,566,000,000 setup-2a.bin
28/11/2013 09:45 1,566,000,000 setup-2b.bin

Can any community members please post a command line directory listing of their TS2012SP1 post NOV 1st installation directory for comparison purposes ?

I'm glad there's another tech around here! Welcome Yinmeout to the forums and to Trainz. I'm sorry to hear about your plight with your install.

Please contact the helpdesk via the link at the top of the forums. I know this isn't the best answer from the community, but it's the only thing that you can do to report the problem because sadly we can't help you with this matter. The official support guys don't always see the posts here even though they do frequent the forums. Keep in mind too that they are in Australia, and do not work weekends so any help desk requests you put in today won't be answered immediately.

With you and others reporting the same issue, then this should bring this problem to their attention.

Regards,

John

Shane

I never use download managers. I have downloaded the files over 3 different browsers. IE11 Opera 18 and Chrome 31 though and none of them made a difference.

Hi Kevin,

Definitely contact the helpdesk. This will be another iron in the fire for them to look at. As a former IT support person, I understand where they are coming from. One instance usually means there's a glitch somewhere while more than one problem with the same process usually means something is borked pretty bad.

Thank you - I had already opened a ticket - but I see logging back in - it's been deleted by the helpdesk.
Not very encouraging.

Hmm... That's odd. Resubmit the ticket as this sounds like a glitch with the ticketing system. Someone should have contacted you regarding your issue. The system does send out an email to you for response and if you didn't respond then it may remove the ticket.

Thank you John - I am (obviously) new to this world / company / product - so when I re-submitted the issue it did send me an email THIS time - so I don't know what went wrong previously. Not worth worrying over.
Although - slight hijack - why do 30% of my charhters neetbe ('characters need to be' before correcting) retyped into this message compiler !! Its a bit crummy!! :)

However in my travels I found this - which is sadly out of date with the file sizes.

http://support.auran.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=105&nav=0,28

Mine are all the same with the exception of:

setup-1a.bin = 1,528,740
setup-3a.bin = 706,538

The supposed culprits 2a 2b etc are the same 1,529,297

Hey ho - just have to wait I guess.

I have no idea regarding the file sizes. I had a DVD to install from and it was in one big setup.exe. Perhaps Shane Turner can help with the file sizes. He's more in tune to that stuff. :)

The v-bulletin software can act weird. Try running your browser in compatibility mode if you are using Internet Explorer 10 or above.

Have no worries regarding the company. They've been around since 2000, formerly Auran Plc and now N3V Software and I've used Trainz since December 2003 when I purchased TRS2004.
