I have always wondered: throughout railroad history, have there ever been lines (most likely spurs) that were under completely private ownership by one individual? I would find it amusing if some millionare some time in the past had a spur constructed to his mansion for whatever reason haha.

I imagine that thre were many shortlines that never had an interchange (switch connection) to a major RR line).
Many NG lines had a short section of dual gauge track where goods were transfered. Other lines like the Wopsy RR had dual gauge interchange, and the EBT RR in Mt Union actualy lifted SG cars, and placed their own 36" NG bogies underneath for use on their line.
The Allegheny Portage Inclined Planes lifted up canal boats, and placed bogies underneath, and hauled them up and over the Appalachian Front Range, via long thick hemp ropes.

Black Mesa only services the mine and the power plant. They do not interchange with anyone and are just at 78 miles long.
