TRS2010

thanks AC for not making this a double post. :D

One quick question; will TS2010 include the S&C content?

Who cares. Plans change, priorities change. They may have said they were going to have multiplayer, but for whatever reasons it was dropped.

Nobody was lied to. Plans were changed because there were more significant issues than multiplayer.

Everybody wants nicer new trees. Not everybody cares about multi. I don't.

As a developer, I'm extremely happy about the addition of Speedtree. I can give up on the countless hours of work I've spent trying to get reasonable looking trees for '09. I mean dozens upon dozens of hours. But I'm happy. Because now I don't have to bother. I know with speedtree, I'll be able to get great looking trees with great performance, even using a huge amount in a scene.

Now us content creators can concentrate on making routes, rollingstock, and buildings. That means we'll be able to make amazing routes quicker than ever before.

I think is one of the best additions to the Trainz platform that could possibly be made.

Unfortunately, I shall now be completely ignoring work on any vegetation for 09 now.

At least I can finally get to work on all of the other projects that I've left dormant whilst trying to make decent trees in a mediocre system.

I highly recommend people look up speedtree and download the demos. You will be rather amazed.

Thank you, Auran.

I am a route builder, and I love the aspect of better content with less lag. But the fact of the matter is that Multiplayer capabilities is the most requested feature for Trainz since the 04 version. It was said it was being worked on for 06, but the people who were working on it were told to halt. Since then it has been asked to be put in future releases but keeps getting left out.

Uuupsies, thanks :)

And, also, are you going to create an export tool for users who have the SpeedTree software(seeing as you're releasing only the trees, and others may purchase the software to create new treez), so they can export into trainz.

That won't be possible .. licensing restrictions apply to both the RT SDK and the CAD plugin .

Okay, well, I guess that I will wait this one out. I really do hope that you fix the collision physics sooner rather than later because I am really tired of the bumpers being for aesthetic use only.

And I do have to ask, where animated trees really necessary. I have never felt that static trees took away from the trainz experience, mainly because when you are moving you will barely notice them anyway.

Whoops, I didn't realize that the answer was already answered. Cheers to more tree packs from you guys, but I am not really interested in paying for trees.

One last thing. I will believe the framerates thing when I see it since I am pretty sure that the speed in speedtree is reflective on how fast you can create said tree, not its framerate affect.

The system is highly configurable , check some of the pics http://www.speedtree.com/ of the component screens and what options are available to Auran. What you get is the best possible LOD setup , no more reliance different LOD setups from different people . You also get great looking content . I will aggree about the animation , this is also something that I can take or leave .

I understand how people can say TSX isnt TRS9, but X = 10 anyhow, so wen will X be? probably never as the year will be gone?

No it isn't. Check post 18.

Hang on, I'll just get a stick so people can get the wrong end of it. ;)

Then I take it they are going to release TS X for their anniversary in 2010.

That doesn't make since to me. :o If they wait until around Xmas next year then it will be for 2011. Hence that doesn't make since to use the "X".

Sounds like a lot of missleading verbage to me. Someone high up at Auran needs to make a statement and clear the air before a lot of customers jump ship.

I was some time away from trainz , and recieved now the october newsletter.
To my surprise TS 2010 !
I cant say the screenschots are convincing ; the same and only loc with some trees around it.
Looks as a repacking once again :

driver + route A

driver + route B

driver + route c

now TS2009 + trees

The use of X is most likely to "sound cool"

actually probably because it'll be the 10th edition of TRS:
Trainz/SP3
UTC
TRS2004
TRS2006
TC1
TC2
TC3
TS09
TS10
Then
TSX

Much as I hate to argue with one so handsome as yourself, I can confirm there are only two continents. I travelled 3 times in two days across Panama, earlier this year. It was constantly pointed out to me, the canal was the boundary between North and South America. Whereas the two continents were joined before the canal, they are now only connected by two bridges. 'The Bridge of the Americas' and the 'Centennial Bridge'. Hope this clarifies the situation for you,and I apologise to all for being 'off topic'.

Regards Bruce
