TRS2009 BETA - Content Manager V2

sterrett

Remember the Withered Arm
Opened the new Content Manager lst night. Obviously, Auran won't let me register a BETA version, but I was astounded at how much Content is showing as "Faulty" with the red exclamation mark!

I had this with Trainz Classics, having to go through item by item and change config.txt files or delete faulty content that I couldn't get to grips with.

I hadn't noticed any missing content so far in the routes, but then, so far, I have only run on one route designed specially for TRS2009 and didn't get any missing kuid's messages!

This beta still has a bug dealing with content that has .pm meshes. Most of the faulty content uses them.

You should have a serial for the Beta if you got it from Auran. They send it via email.

you'll also find that a lot of that content is faulty because of mesh errors, that sort of thing. Tony did mention this... He also said they were working on it...

Yep! I have the BETA Serial, and it allowed the game to be installed and played, but doesn't allow Content Manager to Download!

Using the 2009 CMP I've downloaded a couple of routes (for 2004, 2006 and imported some content (from *.cdp files).

You do need to enter the serial number into the "options" for 2009, and make sure that your username & password is correct (as normal).

Do you have a FCT?

Guys --

I've found that I can't import archive ( .cmpa ) files into the TRS2009 CMP.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

With TC3 I just have to drag them onto the main pane of CMP and they will install. But it's a no-goer with '09.

Beta - "feature complete but not all systems are working as intended. Requires bug fixing and polish."

That is the definition of Beta.

Known issues are shown on the Beta Test Center pages. They describe the errors in the current content. There is also a summary of bugs found by the testers.

We're making good headway through the known issues and the majority of bugs will be fixed prior to release. Non-serious bugs will be released in a patch some time after release. There are already 100 bugs fixed in the "patch version" some of which will be integrated into the release build and others that rely to heavily on bigger changes that will wait until the first patch.

If you find bugs, please follow the bug submission guidelines in your email or on TrainzDev.com. We'd like to keep the Trainz forums for Trainz info rather than development info.

Regarding CMP not downloading, it may take a few minutes to populate the DLS list. If there is a list and no errors showing regarding connection and you cannot download, please submit a bug explaining the steps you have taken (including screenshots). As far as I am aware, apart from a couple of crashes reported due to faulty content, plus a texture compression bug affecting Smiley ;) CMP is behaving very well for users. Once we release a new tutorial regarding filtering, adding ew columns I am confident CM2 will start to gain new fans at a rapid rate.

We currently have 3 known crash bugs and a couple of non-reproducible crashes. Also, content showing errors does not necessarily mean the item will not work. In fact, in most cases the errors were present in previous builds but simply not reported.

Here is an example:
item A reports an error with Texture B not loading.
The item looks fine in Surveyor and works as it should.
Open looking at the 3D model, there is Texture B showing on the main surface of the item, but also placed incorrectly in the "wrong" slot in the mesh. Trainz ignores the unloadable texture, loads the object correctly but reports an error (which there is since the texture in the wrong slot is not needed at all).

We could supress the error, but then the creator would not be aware of his error. In most cases it s fine, but in one case we have found, the texture was 25MB in size (and doesn't appear on the object at all in game).

What route is that please sterrett, as none of the routes are new, they've all featured in previous versions of Trainz, from UTC to Trains Classics 1&2 and the German and French routes were in their respective TRS2007 versions AFAIK, and the French layouts are on the DLS anyway.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

I think you might like to consider re-wording this one Tony :hehe: :hehe:

Ah! I stand corrected. I have now run two routes, designed for TRS2007, and no missing content has been discovered.

This "faulty" reporting of Progressive Meshes - does it actually stop the asset from showing up in Surveyor / Driver or is the "faulty" indicator a bit of a red herring sometimes?

Hi, do you mind if I ask what you think of the content manager. Is it nice to use? a good layout? suitable for managing thousands of assets? I'd like to know what it looks like and what you think of the new program.

So far, it's very similar to the "Content Manager Plus" as we know it. I have now managed to register my BETA TRS2009 and can now download with CMv2. If you've used Content Manager Plus (TRS2004 onwards) then Content Manager 2 will be entirely familiar.

So far, touch wood, CMv2 has not crashed, hung or messed me about. The only thing that surprised me was, as I said, how much content showed as faulty!

I'll see if I can get you a few screenshots!

Here you go:

The .pm meshes seem to work fine in the game as they have before. I have seen mention that the code changes that allow the performance increases in TS2009 do not work as well with .pm meshes as they do with the .im meshes. So using a lot of asset with .pm meshes may hurt performance. TS2009 comes with compatibility mode on by default. If you turn that off, faulty or broken assets will not show in the surveyor object panel and therefore can be placed on a map by the builder.

Unknown problem

Hey Guys, I have absolutly no idea what is going on. When I had TRS 2006, everything in the game worked fine but then out of no where the content manager stopped downloading stuff altogether. I believe it was because the FCT ticket expired. Made sense. But know I bought and have been playing TRS 2009 WBE and a new FCT ticket has been activated however it still isn't downloading anything. The Serial Number is registered, the Username and password are active, I repair the database twice, once normal the other extensive. I tried it with the settings at internet proxy and no proxy at all and in all cases nothing. I even tried without a firewall thinking that was blocking it. it wasn't. Anyone know what is happening? it is even on a completely different computer so I think it is profile related.

Welcome to the Trainz forums, Me22.

Make sure that your login name to your Planet Auran is the same as your login to the forums, and you also put the same login informaion into CMP2.

Hi Me22

Please keep in mind that a FCT can take up to 24 hours to fully activate. If it has not activated after 24 hours, please send a ticket to the helpdesk, and we will investigate further.
