TRS2006.... support ?

Hi..

I`ve read somewhere that support for TRS2006 will end in the near future.. is this true ?
The reason for asking is that I`m 20 boards into building a layout, and I`m thinking it may all have been for nothing (spent the last few weeks doing research at the main library).

So, should a scrap what I`ve done and move `up` to TRS2010 ? and if so, will the content I have for `2006 (including payware) work ?

...and also, if I do switch versions will I be able to transfer what I have in my `local` file (items D/L from DLS) ?

confused..... you bet !

Sept 1st 04/06 will not upload, and downloading may, or may not, be discontinued ? Who knows ?

If all downloads in 04/06 are not possible, what you have in your 04/06 assets can be saved as CDP's and transferred into 09/10.

The 04/06 process of "local" file transfer, and deletion of assets.tdx & assets.bku folder is not compatable with 09/10, as all your assets in 09/10 I believe are elsewhere.

The Great Debate....

This topic has been thrashed over and over.

Please READ the posts by N3V staff regarding this issue in the thread linked below (this is the most recent thread on this topic):

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=59964

Other threads on this topic are available also, just take the time to find them.

Thanks for taking the time to read and understand.

Have fun,

To sum up:
People with 06 and earlier will not have access to the unless they have an FCT. All 06 and earlier content will still be on the DLS. You will also not be able to upload if you have 06 and earlier (not sure about uploading if you have an FCT)

Hi....

Thank you all for the answers and help.

It seems to me that an `upgrade` to 2010 is the best idea, I`ll make a copy of my `local` file and once 2010 is installed I`ll transfer the items in.

Let the machine do it...

 In TS2010, CMv3.3, select Import Content.

Go to your TRS2006/Local Folder & Import.

Interesting, hadn't thought it could be done this way. So one just copies the local folder from your old PC to the new one and then selecting that folder in the CMP is enough?
But what happens with the allready buildin content that's the same as what comes from trs2006?
Apart from this, the mind boggles what time it will take to import 18GB of assets into 2010 in one go.

09/10 vs 04/06 "Local" folders may be much different, and may corrupt Trainz if you simply put your 04/06 Local folder in 09/10.

Assets.tdx and assets.bku should not be deleted in 09/10.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I'd hate to see anyone corrupt 09/10, with 04/06 local folder processes.

As I understand the various briefings/threads, if you build a route in TRS2006 or earlier - even if you own a later version or have a FCT - from September you will not be able to upload it. That doesn't stop users from building in TRS2006 if they wish, however it will be necessary to save your project as a cdp in TRS2006, then install into TS2009/2010. After a quick makeover (maybe one of the better looking track types) you can upload to the DLS from TS2009/2010 as a newer build version without issue - even though most of the legwork will have been done in 006.

At least that's how I see it.

They're definitly very different. First they're split up in two locations and it seems the database is now using a hash table for quick reference. Disaster will probably be your demise if you just try to drop the old local folder in there.
So, maybe I described it wrong, or to confusing. :hehe:

I meant copy the local trainz 2006 folder from your old PC to any location on the new PC's harddive and then with the CMP of 2010 use the "import content..." menu. point it to that old copied local folder on your HD, and so import all in that copied old folder to the new Userdata/local and Userdata/original folders from ts2010.

As far as I can see this operation it can't be something that's left alone overnight, since you need to skip all items allready buildin in ts2010. Or there must be a filter option during this process I'm overlooking. A complete backup of the whole ts2010 installation tree would be prudent to say the least in this case ihmo.:hehe:

Hi..

I`ve taken the plunge and ordered a copy of 2010, which should arrive within a couple of days.

Now to get my head around how this version operates :'(
