Go with TS2010. This is essentially TS2009 EE with a bunch of bug fixes and a whole lot of extras.

TRAINZ 2009 with patches installed works perfectly. From reading the 2010 forum, I get the impression that 2010 still has some problems not the least of which is Speed Trees.

TS2010 without a doubt.

(But, if you are strapped for cash, 2009 is cheaper and not too bad)

If you like the UK 1960s steam era it's well worth buying the 2009 Settle and Carlisle add on as well (it works fine with TS2010).

Just my opinion!

Yea, no reason to get 09 rather than 10. Obviously, 10 has more features than 09, and I myself have absolutely no problems with it in any way. Also, there is nothing you can do in 09 that you can't do in 10.

Hi!

Thanks to everybody for your help. Will Trainz 2010 work OK on a single core processor as I notice on the tech spec that is says you need a dual core for it to run?? Is this really necessary?

....Will Trainz 2010 work OK on a single core processor....

Trainz 2010 can use two cores but it should work OK with one (see the Minimum spec requirements on th Auran website).

Best if you post your system specifcations here, for a health check, just to be sure.

Good move on your part. Be sure to get the patches and updates in the proper order. They also rebuild the data base which takes time, between one and two hours depending on your system. See posts by Shane on 2009 forum if you need some guidance.

Cheers, tomurban

Hi:)

It seems to be running fine at the moment. Do I need the patches? If so can you please put a link here as I can't find them-it's all fairly new to me!

Thanks:)

I always advise installing the patches where possible.

To give the full instructions though, I will need your build number (shown at bottom-right of the Launcher)

Most of the time, patches can improve the reliability and performance of Trainz, and (somewhere between SP1 and SP3) CM2 changes.

Hi Shane!

My build number is 38869. On the window it says TS2009 Trainz Version 3 (Build 38869)

Thanks :)

OK, you have the Just Trains version.

To install the patch to get you to SP2, you need to visit http://www.justtrains.net/faqs.asp?drdProduct=205#Update393 and click the Download button. Save the file to the Desktop, then follow the following instructions. It is split into two sections.

Installing the Just Trains patch

1.Disable your antivirus software before installing the patch.
2.If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click the patch file then click Run as administrator. If you are running XP or earlier, just double-click the patch file.
3.A wizard will appear: click Next.
4.Check that the folder path shown matches where you originally installed Trainz (default installation path is usually C:/Program Files/TrainzSimulator2009/ for a 32-bit system and C:/Program Files (x86)/TrainzSimulator2009, then click Next.
5.A Trainz Patcher window will appear. Click the Apply Patch button.
Note: If you get an error relating to DirectX 9.0C (August 2009) not being installed, see http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=58843 for instructions on how to rectify this.
Once the patching has finished (it may take up to 2-3 hours), click Close (not Cancel)

Installing the patch to take you up to 41844

Before installing this patch, you may need to do a database repair.

To do this:
1.Double-click the Trainz shortcut. (If you are using Windows Vista or 7, follow the following (you may have already done this part)
a)Right-click the Trainz shortcut.
b)Click Properties.
c)Click Compatibility.
d)Click in the box marked 'run this program as administrator', then click OK.
2)Click Manage Content.
3)Click File, then Extended Database Repair, then wait for it to complete.
4)Close Content Manager.

You will now need to register your version of Trainz - use the Register link above to do this.

To install the second patch:
1)Click Options on the launcher screen.
2)Click the Planet Auran tab.
3)Make sure you have entered your CD Key and Username/password.
4)Click Patch Trainz.
5)When it becomes available, click Run Patcher.
6)Another Trainz patcher window will appear: click Apply Patch if the button becomes available - otherwise let it complete then click Close when it has finished.

You should now be running build 41844. Now repeat the instructions for doing a database repair.

If you have any problems, reply to this post.
