TRS 2009 Patch taking FOREVER

The time taken is due to the patch needing to decompress and then re-compress a number of files that contain the content for the game, as well as updating many other game files. The list of fixes/updates for this pack is fairly long, and as such it does require a large amount of time to update.
The time required can also depend on how much space is available for the temp folder (which does have a limit), as well as the size of your swap file, the hard drive speed, the CPU, as well as how large the 'local' folder for your Trainz installation is (this will effect the patching process as well as the database rebuild that is performed at the end of the patch, and which can take the longest to perform due to the number of changes).
As has been said, please be patient and allow the patch to finish. As per my previous post, we do recommend running the patch overnight so that you don't interfere with it.
For the anti-virus. As has been said, leaving this (and other background programs running) can cause the patch to either take longer or to become 'corrupted' if the anti-virus program blocks it. We also recommend disconnecting your internet connection, as this will prevent Trainz from attempting to update it's download station database during the database rebuild (it may also speed up some other parts of the patch as well, and of course it protects your computer whilst your AV and firewall are turned off).
It's not good enough...
We shouldn't have to mess around with our machines that much in order to get an upgrade. If it's going to take that long then it really should come with a warning. The patch panel's not telling me anything - if I hadn't gone into the Resource Monitor to check I would have thought that the update had stalled.
I will be honest, it's really putting me off going for any more upgrades. It's really not a comfortable experience. And you can bet for every post on the board there are a huge slew that have given up.

It's finally finished - and now it's telling me my asset database is corrupt. Sorry Trainz guys, but as a (former) software developer I can tell you this is an unacceptable customer experience.

It is very uncomfortable if you don't realize it will take one to five or so hours to complete. For the sake of their bottom line, Auran should make that clear some how. If you do know it you can start it and go to bed for a blissful night's sleep knowing it will be a better world when you awake.
But what I don't understand...

How on earth was this patch allowed to escape? I've got a vanilla install on my machine, yet it took hours (without any obvious warnings), no progress indication of note, and I had to rebuild the database afterward.
If I was the Auran software manager I would immediately ban patch installs and get the developers to come up with another alternative. Either the patch install process is incredibly poor or (rather worryingly) Trainz 2009 is a castle built on sand...

Ridiculous amount of time wasted trying to install 38869-40040 (SP2) patch
I've tried five times to get this patch to work (after about 2 hours it gets half way, then seems to stop - I've waited up to 12 hours for it to progress further, but to no avail). I've had to cancel it, when meant the program & databases were corrupt and would not run, therefore had to keep reinstalling the main TRS2009 program as well. I have tried with and without internet and anti-virus (which I must say I was reluctant to do at first, but was desperate to see it through). I think this is a very inefficient and slow way of upgrading to the next version - even upgrading to Windows 7 was easier than this (at least it worked first time). I'll try once again, and if it fails I give up!!!!
P.S. As stated in earlier posts, at least a percentage with say 2 or even 3 decimal places would be nice, so at least we could see whether it was actually doing anything.
