Trouble with trs'06, questions about '09

I have been away from the forum for a long time now so I basicly had to re-learn how to use it. Since I purchased TRS2006 about 3 yrs ago, I have had many difficulties with the program and the CM in particular. I must have erased and reinstalled TRS2006 over 20 times total and the CM has only worked a few times. I always try to install the program using advise I have gotten here.

1. Before using TRS2006 make sure to install SP1

2. I make certain all my drivers are up to date (most of the time I pass the diagnostics program with flying colors, other times it fails miserably)

3. Try the program with both OpenGL and DirectX9

4. Check the programs (properties) to make sure it's opening with the correct operating system - WinXP

I recently erased my entire hard drive and reinstalled WinXP and installed a fresh copy of TRS2006 no less than 4 times and each time the CM fails to even open! While searching for this forum again to post my misfortune and pray for help I ran across an ad for TRS2009. My questions are as follows:

1. What am I doing wrong (or not doing at all) that my CM will not open and stops responding?

2. Is TRS2009 compatable with TRS2006 as far as being able to move maps. For instance I purchased the full version of Marias Pass Route (which I can't get installed again because of my CM problem), will I be able to run this route on TRS2009? Will I be able to move content from my 2006 local file to the 2009 local file?

I'm sorry if I'm not posting this in the correct catagory. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Thank you for your response.

I figured it out...after installing WinXP and the service pack, I installed my video card drivers using the CD that came with the card. Then after installing TRS06 and the service pack I failed the diagnostic test miserably. I found a program on the internet called "Driver Detective", purchased ($29.95) and installed the program and ran a scan. It showed that nearly all my drivers were out of date, even after freshly installing them with the original CD's. It easily upgraded my drivers for sound, video, bios, and a few other things. I then ran the diagnostic program again and passed it all with a green check mark! I hope that others who may experience the same problem read this and give it a try. I never imagined that the drivers that came with my hardware would not be good enough. My CMP now works great.

Also the up to date drivers greatly helped my computer run faster!

Thanks again for your assistance and I hope this helps others.

John

Greetings again John

That's great news, glad you got it all sorted out.

It's too bad you had to incur an added expense, but now the fun for you can begin again :)

Cheers,
Lenny
