Trouble with screen resolution

Trainz 2012 froze up when I attempted to start the tutorial. The message came up that "this is not the optimal screen resolution" However, I went to my computer's Control Panel and the screen resolution is already set to the recommended 1280 X 1024. So, why won't the game play? This computer, by the way, is for games and is less than a year old. Thanks for any help you can give --

Firstly, you need to register your TS12.

Secondly, was it Windows or Trainz that stated that the resolution was not correct?

Some details about your system would be nice, too.

P.S. Welcome to the forums.

There are 2 other places to set your screen resolution, 1 via content manager and the other in the nvidea settings. (assuming you have an nvid card)
At a guess if all 3 are not set the same you may get conflicts.

I had this same issue when I first installed Trainz 04 on my current computer, running a Radeon video card (my previous installation was on another computer with an NVIDIA card). No matter what resolution I kept setting it to, Trainz kept spitting the dummy and throwing up that 'not optimal screen resolution' error.

It turns out it was because Trainz was set for OpenGL Mode, not Direct X (for some reason, my Radeon card hates running in OpenGL) - once I set Trainz for Direct X and set the screen resolution to my monitor's resolution the problem disappeared. It's worth noting that Trainz 2010 did the exact same thing when I first installed that too on this computer as well.

Try setting Trainz for DirectX (under 'display settings' of the Configure Trainz option on the main start-up menu in Trainz 04) and see if that helps. :)

Thanks all for your help, I will try the recommendations later on. This is actually my son's game and he was wondering what to do.
