Trouble loading Trainz 12

Fresh off the Rage debacle I was seriously hoping for a game that would just load. JET keeps "Not Responding" whenever I go to load the game. Checked to make sure I was running as admin and also did the DX 9 thing but its still "Not responding" at the same point. Game locks up after I press the start button on the first splash screen. Screen goes black and I get the loading icon with my mouse, but nothing happens. Have to Cnt-Alt-Delete to get out. Using a Dell Precision M4500 laptop, with Windows 7 Professional Ed. 64bit. Have a Nvidia Quaddro FX 1800m video card running 285.79 Beta drivers (this due to Rage). Also, trying to run the Steam version of the game, got a good price on it and all.

The first problem I can see is that you have not registered your TS12 serial number.

Assuming my serial number is the same as the key that I got from steam I should be registered. Have a new error to, "unable to connect to the trainz asset database". Let the game run on its own for about 10 minutes and got that. Rechecked run as administrator and noticed that the option is disabled or unavailable, don't know if this is steam related or not.

With Steam games, the run as administrator must be done on the Steam client shortcut - this may or may not be the same one used to launch Trainz.

Will try that. Believe this is another Nvidia/Intel issue, loaded the sim up on another rig that is Radeon/AMD based and the sim runs fine. Think if I ever get the money up will get a physical copy as well, have misgivings over the Steam version. As in Steam seems to have stopped supporting it, and Trainz patches from the website wont affect the Steam version.

If that fails, it may be due to using beta graphics drivers - this is not something that is recommended usually.

I believe from what others have posted you can run Trainz direct from wherever Steam has installed it, without starting the Steam Client, won't help the lack of patches though.

Suggest try that and instead of going straight into the game go into content manager, it may need to do an initial database update / repair which could take some time.

That is correct - it's usually a subfolder of <Steam install folder>/steamapps/common.

I'm considering getting Trainz 2012 from Steam. But I heard that steam verison is not updatable.
can I manualy install patches (downloaded from forum) to Steam Version Trainz2012?

No. You can only install patches that are provided by Steam.

So, is the patches provided Steam able to keep up with the ones from auran? Or would the patch of steam delay by a long time, say a couple of months or even longer?

And how the patch of TS2010 steam version. Is it up to date?

None of the Steam versions are the latest compared to N3V versions.

If you are going to use content like the Aerotrain, you need to get a non-Steam version (if you want a digital download, get it direct from N3V)
