Trouble exporting to CDP

I get an extensive error report, it talks about the files being too large for something but also that it can't read the files. Could it be that I just don't have permission because the route is catagorized as " modified parware "? I am trying to back up all my modified routes to a large external hard drive so the size issue can't be the target for the saving of the CDP. I can't copy and paste so I took a screenshot but can't figure how to add a jpg to this so I will try and type the error message:

X Folder contents are too large for: arc:fld:S(local)/hash-B3 kuid 546721 100042.tzarckuid2 122860 100494 19

X Failed to import folder at: G:/ProgramFiles/N3VGames/TrainzRailroadSimulator2019/Content/local/hash-B3/kuid546721 100042.tzarc

X Unable to read files for asset <kuid:546721:100042>

X Failed to save CDP to disk

I have previously saved about a half dozen other routes to CDP most of which are modified but not all are derived from payware.

If I'm not allowed to make backup of payware, so be it but I will miss all the little mods I have done for my own use the next time my comp. craps itself!

Thanks

One point to remember is that there is an upper limit to the size of a .cdp file which, from your description of the error messages, seems to be the problem.

That upper limit is 1GB which can be easily exceeded if you are combining many separate large assets into one backup .cdp file. The process of creating a .cdp file does involve compressing the data and in Trainz Plus/TRS22 a much higher level of compression is used than in earlier Trainz versions but even this may fail if too many large assets are being jammed into the one .cdp.

If this is the case (i.e. multiple large asset files being combined into a single .cdp) then my recommendation would be to reduce the number of files you are adding to the .cdp archive. Split them over several .cdps and number them sequentially for easy recognition.

You can backup payware assets to a .cdp file.

Note that the Wiki says (here): "cdp files should not be made larger than 500MB in size, so as to ensure that the file does not become corrupted and can be imported successfully by Trainz." However I frequently use cdp files up to 2.5GB without any issue. I read somewhere that maximum size for a cdp file containing one single asset is 1GB, with no limit for those containg several ones.

The 500MB limit on .cdp files is for uploading to the DLS. Note that, as I posted earlier, the data is heavily compressed when it is being packed into a .cdp file.

My latest project, for example, has a route asset that CM reports as being 465MB in size but when compressed into a .cdp file it is reduced to 117MB.

The Wiki needs to be updated: it says the 500MB limit is for "transfer(ing) content between different installations/versions of Trainz", not for uploading to the DLS.
