Triggers

I have been using Trainz for about 5 years now - two things I always had trouble understanding were Portals and Triggers - well I finally got around to asking about Portals on here and with the advice I was given and a little further reading - got them worked out - but Triggers have me baffled - can anybody explain what they do and how to utilise them in Surveyor and Driver - I am having problems with my layout in trying to stop trains at crossovers when I have an AI train coming in the opposite direction and is supposed to use the crossover - would Triggers be of any use in this situation?

regards

Triggers activate a situation when used with other rules or commands. The most common one is the driver command wait for trigger. This will keep a train from doing the next command until a train crosses the named trigger and releases the waiting train. Other rules and commands are also available.

Sorry but this is a newbie question on triggers. I would like a smoke generator to activate inside an ash pit when a steam locomotive rolls over it and stop once the engine leaves. Is this possible?

Diamond crossing?

By " ... I am having problems with my layout in trying to stop trains at crossovers ... " do you mean at diamond crossings?

If so, look on the Download Station for "ASB Crossover" (include TS2004 content in your search if you are accessing the DLS directly rather than through Content Manager).

Providing it is correctly configured it works extremely well.

If you mean crossing loops ... well, that a rather more complex issue.

Tell us how you go.

Triggers are VERY useful. lets say you have train A assigned to swap out different cars but you don't want it blocking mainline track. You would like to have the A train WAIT for Another(you can assign any train or a particular loco that must trip the trigger) train to pass the mainline before you let your A train venture out into the traffic lanes.

Now for your second part there is a RULE that can be downloaded " Multiple signal rule" this rule uses triggers to turn signals at crossings to stop until the train clears the track crossing.

There are also some good signal and crossing tutorials by third parties which I found VERY helpful.

If your enjoy running AI drivers you are really going to like the trigger feature its worth your while to learn how to make it work.

This would require some script to be writen and attached to the ash pit. Triggers are used to control the movement of trains, not the annimation of trackside assets.

the ASB is awesome to use but also is the "diamond crossing rule"
and "trigger multiple signals rule"
thes are other options to control crossovers without add on s in surveyor but all 3 work the same config assigned signals for commands.........
they all proven in 2006 on my side 2010 I only checked out ASB so good luck
Dave =)
