trigger rule for junction switch

jytte

route builder
This is a two part question:

I put an invisible junction on my track. Then added a trigger in front of that.
I want the junction to be default closed for the main track, but open when a train passes the trigger (hope this makes sense).
I added the "trigger check" and the "switch junction" (as child) to my session rules, but it does not work. Tried the "trigger rule" instead, no luck.
I must be doing something wrong here. Can anyone tell me how this is to be done right?

Part two: assuming I figure out how to make it work, this is for a session only, right? So, if someone was to just load the route, and put their "own" train on and drive, none of those rules will be present, and the main track in question will be permanently closed and derail the train, right? (in which case this is not the way I need to do this). Is there some way of applying this kind of "rules" to a route?

I might add, that the reason for all of this is to have a signal ahead of a lift bridge be RED, and only turn GREEN when a train approaches (and the bridge automatically comes down). And this with the invisible junction is the only thing I've been advised to try so far.

Hope this makes sense to you'all.

What I do is set up all the rules then save it as a session called Default or rule setup then I can make all my other sessions from that one :)

That's a good one, Thanks Davie! I should do that.

But that leads to another question. I'm not quiet seeing how this works I guess. I've made a part of my route, including some ships and aircrafts (had to get those tracks in order first), and also including an industry and a train with a bunch of hoppers to load into. This was a lot of work, setting up all the drivers etc etc, and I don't fancy doing it again. Problem is, now I have this session that includes all that, but at the moment I load it every time I load the route, because I'm not sure what happens if I load the route and work on the map without having the session up as well? Oh, and if I was to make a session only for "rules", then I would have to start all over from that one adding my trains etc? Sorry, I'm a little confused, hope I'm making sense.

a session contains all trains and industry instructions etc. If you open the route only as long as you do not delete, rename or alter a sequence that the session uses it will be fine. You can add scenery, texture, create new areas of the route and save. the session will still work.
Open your existing session then save it as a different name (Default rule). Now delete all the trains and you are left with only the rules you set up. Save this as the default rule session. When you open this next time all the rules you set up are ready to go without having to redo them, just add trains for a new session and save under a different name in order that the default rule session is not altered.
Uploading the route and the default rule session gives everyone the basic setup

I'm a bit tired right now so I may not understand all you have said, but you can just delete all the trains from the session you say you have then save that as the default, and you'l still have the original with all the trains set up.

You can work on it without opening a session, if you're just changing scenery but not trains and such.. it shouldn't damage the other sessions unless you remove track or things you have placed the trains on in the other session.. It might be wise to do what I said in the previous paragraph and just work using the 'default' one. :)

Hope I make sense!

Thanks stagecoach, that makes sense.

Anyone on the trigger-rule question? A pointer to a tutorial maybe? The TRS2006-manual isn't much help.

In the session rules, try this.
(make sure you indent each one so the above rule has to happen before the next one is activated if that makes sense)

Ordered list
-trigger check
--set junctions

In ordered list you can set it so this list continues forever, otherwise once its triggered once it won't happen again.. I believe. Try that out and tell us how you get on :)

It works

Davie, thanks so much.

First I set up a new testboard (so not to mess up my route, just in case). Then I did as you said, order/trigger/set, and it works now, as you can see on the pictures.
First pic is the surveyor, with the junction default to closed main track. I added a couple of signs so I know where the trigger and junction is in Driver.
It still doesn't revert the setting of the junction, so I probably need yet another trigger/set to revert, and I also need to deal with the opposite direction signals. But that's fine, now I know how to do this.

That's so cool. Thanks all for your kind advice!

No problem!

Glad you got it working, once you get started theres so many things you try to do with triggers!
