Trainz wont run

Could you copy/paste some of the errors into a PM and send it to me? Sometimes the text given will give clues.

unable to chose where the games are installed when purchased through Steam it installs everything to its own folder for games and software downloaded using it

Sounds like a good reason to stay away.Have tried contacting Steam for assistance, fresh download, refund, etc. Your download files may have been int erupted/corrupted in the download process.

have tried re-downloading and installing but has had no luck with that as well and contacting steam is like trying to get blood from a stone :(

This may be a useless snippet, but I'll take a chance :)
In between updates 2010 would launch in Content Manager but the desktop shortcut threw errors.
Found launching through CM had the advantage of commiting any work I was doing.

Just for the heck of it, go into the 2010 folder, look for launcher.exe and click on it. Your files may be too corrupted to work at all, but give it a shot anyway.

I have tried that too funny enough all of the .exe files in the folder even the TrainzDiag.exe comes up with the exact same error message :( steam sucks but I have never had this much of a major problem with games I have bought through steam before

I'm running short of ideas, but here are some more:

#1: Make sure that every program (.exe) you want to run is allowed to run with whatever firewall you have installed.

#2: Double-check that the folder those exe's are in is set for full access by everyone on the 'Security' tab.

#3: Go to Start and enter DXDIAG into either the Run box, or the search area. When it shows up, hit 'OK'. let me know what the results of ALL the tests are.

Can I check which Visual C++ redistributable you have installed? You may need an earlier or later version.

Also, have you got the latest graphics card drivers? (http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/PreScan.aspx?lang=en-uk will give you access to Nvidia's driver detection utility)4a

Also, I think that the memory may be a bit low for TS2010.

As for the administrator issue, check the setting using the following process:

1.Right-click the Trainz shortcut.
2.Click Properties.
3.Click Compatibility.
4.If the box labelled 'run this program as an administrator' is not ticked, click in it to place a tick.
5.Click OK, then respond to any User Account Control boxes that appear.

the version C++ that installed was the one I was given the link to on page 2 and I already updated the graphics card to the latest version as well in the hope that it will work and according to the system specs 2GB is more then good enough to run a game that requires 1GB

and am not able to set to run as admin that way since it seems to be blanked out and you can't select it and I turned off the UCA boxes because it did my head in when ever I was asked if I was sure I wanted to do something

Ah - that sounds like the problem to me.

Did you install Trainz before or after turning UAC off?

Shane

(This is a very important question - programs behave differently when UAC is disabled)

OK - that removes one of the possibilites. (UAC being turned off after installing game)

I will do some research and see if I can find a solution.

Shane

in a PM with another member who been helping me with this we looked through the event log data and he said the problem seems to be with a certain file called ntdll.dll

I think I may have found the solution - download and install the C++ 2005 redistributable from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...EE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en.

If that fails to make any difference, reply to this post.

Shane

EDIT: I will also have a look into the ntdll.dll error - I am also available via PM if needed.

tried it and still no luck :( if I knew there was going to be this much hassle I would never have bothered buying the game :(

OK - I will keep looking for you (I'm one of those people who likes to try and solve problems)

Shane

EDIT: I am also available via PM, if you prefer to use that method.

Just out of interest, how did your Quicktime update go?

OK - just done some research on that error - it's the 2008 version of the redistributable you need.

Download it at:

macfast, you may want to try that as well if you haven't already solved the problem.

Shane

Tried all solutions posted, as well as above with no joy. :'(
I wont give up but i am going to try railwork 2 just to see if that works.
Going to try a few registry tweaks. Will keep u posted if it works.
