Trainz Prices Too High?

Good one there Deano5.

To be honest, I disllke it when users suggest getting it for free.

If I remember rightly, that is covered by the Code of Conduct.

The 50% thing is active. I just 5 minutes ago received the latest newsletter saying it is still going on "50% store wide" so is $25 dollors still too much?

I believe when someone is comparing theft of an item to actually buying an item, the price will be a non issue.

$50 is more or less the normal price for a new game in store, so quit moaning.
If you want to spend less money, get 2010 or take a jump in a discount bin and get 2006 or 2009 for next to nothing. Or get a job, that usually fixes the problem of lack of money.

i just got a 50% off all purchases from NV3's newsletter in my email
Same.
So now I have a 9125 day First Class Ticket for A$60.

At full price Trainz is the cheapest train hobby on the planet - on a per-hour basis it is so cheap it's ridiculous. At 50% off (if it is) its just silly cheap. Would that buy one decent box car model?

If you'd prefer to steal it (which is what 'download for free online' means) then go away, you're not wanted here...

I would like to make some things clear.
1. I have not illegaly downloaded ANYTHING from the internet.
2. If you are going to acuse someone of being a thief, you are the one not wanted here.
3. You could go to a model train show and buy about 5 decent boxcars for 40 dollars.
4. I dont think Trainz is a hobby, just a good marketing PC game

I just read the code of conduct and it said that you can not give away any info of how to download games for free.

Hi All,

I bought the first trainz ever, and I have supported it ever since --- I bought the next three versions, up to 2006 -- I have never given any thought of the price! I skipped the classic series because, honestly, for me I saw it as a super upgrade, etc ... Anyhow, if Auran comes out with a great product I will buy it -- yes, I can sit back and wait for the price to drop because it will always drop -- but, again, if you like the product buy it, and stop bitching; Or ask for it for your birthday or Christmas!

Honestly, I see more people today with cell phones, spending up to 100 a dollar a month, basically given their money to the phone companies (cell phone gadgets are so overrated), and then I am reading about price drops etc etc ...

I am huge believer that if you like it, support it! Simple!!!
dayGood dayll

4. I dont think Trainz is a hobby, just a good marketing PC game

From Auran's point of view is a business that they choice to do, because they love what they are doing which is improving the product they created, thus marketing it to make money, because they need to be pay the rent -- they are not going to do this for free now!

Secondly, from a customer point of view, it is a hobby (for me) ... I am a loyal customer, who have built countless of items and uploaded those thems to the DLS, because it's a fun enjoyable hobby for me! I would dare to say that many would agree with me on these points! So, in closing, is trainz a hobby!? Yes, for those who enjoy it year in, year out!

Just keep in thought that the oringal post from me was just an opinion. You do not have to write negative comments about my opinion. So what I think Trainz can be pricey. Can't people get along with each other. I understand that suggesting the idea of downloading the game was not a good idea, but I am an honest person and I would never break the law. I hope you all can end up understanding that this is a Trainz forum. Not an argument forum.

I am amazed that somebody thinks that Trainz is too expensive it must be the cheapest interest or hobby available. N3V is a small company who do a fantastic job and that is why Trainz has such an active and popular fan base.
The best value for money I've ever seen is the SnC add on pack with all those free payware quality downloads. I believe the SnC team are engaged on a new Trainz release has there been any news on this.

I find it funny, his hobbies in his profile is model railroading, but he's complaining about $50

Jamie
I find it funny, I buy my trains at model train show for a very little price. I once bought a Marx train car from the 1940s for $5.00. For Trainz, you can buy a VIRTUAL Blue Comet for $7.00. Which one would you rather have, the real train, or the computer generated train, the train worth something, or the train worth nothing?

So you think TS12 is pricey? N3V are an Australian games developer, hence their games are based on Australian prices. Not so long ago, our Australian dollar was WAY below your US dollar in exchange rates comparison. Is it N3V's fault that your government stuffed up your (the US) economy (Bush by warfare with no regards to spending big) and our AU economy remained strong, hence now our AU dollar is higher standing than yours, hence you pay about a quarter more now than you would have, say, a couple of years ago.

Normal price here in AU for TS12 is AU$ 59.95 but for quite some time now it could be bought for AU$ 49.95, lately with discounts now even cheaper. Compare this with the price one has to pay here in AU for Skyrim (AU$59.95) most other new games (Battlefield, Tour of Duty, Dragon Age I + II, Kingdom of Amalur, Diablo III when released, Dust etc.) for between AU$ 80.00 and AU$ 99.00.

Where is TS12's price now in relation to other games for all the enjoyment one will get out of creating, constructing, running etc. any sort of layout/route that is available for d/load or has been created by oneself? How many years in the future will many still be playing Trainz, when all the above (Battlefield, Tour of Duty, Dragon Age I + II, Kingdom of Amalur, Diablo III, Dust etc.) have been long forgotten and gather dust laying in a corner or in a cupboard somewhere? If one does not like aspects of one's route, hey presto, this can get deleted, added on or redone some other way etc. Try this with your fixed route in your basement or wherever, which might have taken you years to construct, then add even more many dollars you spend buying rolling stock and scenery items for it.

I know where I am better off by buying Trainz where I can let my creative juices flow and alter, delete, manipulate or add on parts of it whenever or wherever I am (if using a laptop for Trainz).

My 2 cents (your US 2.2 cents) worth :p.

Hi everyone, afried here. I wanted to let everyone reading this thread know that I have changed my mind about TRS12 being to pricey. It is the best train simulator out there. Its qulity is amazing and better then any of the other Trainz games. I recently bought it for about $30.00 since I recived a voucher for some money off. I hope we can stop this fued over the price.

I think your posts crossed paths as they were so close together...he did come around and realize it's a good deal.

The way comments fly so quickly here, we need a microsecond timer to track who posts first!

Mr. Fried.

I'm glad you see that the price is not that high at all. Once you start building a route and use the program, game, hobby, whatever you want to call this, for many hours or even months, you'll definitely see your return on investment, or ROI as they call it in the corporate world.

The $30.00 or less you spent is about what I paid for my TRS2004 back in December 2004. I too, like the others here, have upgraded a few times and have seen great progress with each version. The differences between TRS2004 and TS12 are like night and day with the stability and the graphics being a lot better in the later version.

So enjoy your TS12. Remember to register your copy so we can provide support for you and feel free to post as many questions as you feel you need too.

John

For $50.00 I could get a taxi 7 kms to the railway station, watch the Indian Pacific go through and catch a taxi back home. Trainz is my choice.

Good for you! I've been a Trainz customer since about 2005.I scratched my head for a while, but finally the light bulb lit up and I began to "understand" it.I have enjoyed it all along. There have been a few rough patches(and patches to fix them)but all in all I feel it is the best product out there.I bought Rail W##ks an few years ago, breifly was stunned by the graphics, but became disillusioned with the inability to place content and run sessions(I'm sure I will be told what a Stooge I am and it's not that difficult) so,deleted it and went back to Trainz. Also wanted to point out that buy purchasing a legitimate copy, you allow NV3 to (hopefully) continue the Trainz franchise for many years!...................Randy

Do I think trainz is expensive? Nope it is the same price that I would pay to go buy any other game for PC or console these days.. However the one thing that irks me is the downloadable version being the same exact price as the DVD version....Should at the very least be 10 dollars less, since there is no packaging, no DVD, no manual etc etc.

It is less - no shipping for the download. I, for one, am glad they still offer physical media.
