Trainz Payware NEED feedback

John I've been researching the use of Torrents for 12 months. The size of the file is of no importance. The smaller it is the quicker it will download. There are no legal or moral grounds to concern yourself with. Torrents are "also" used to download pirated stuff, but all kinds of people use them to transfer files privately. Any Trainz torrent would remain in the private realm of Trainz users.

The Torrent database wouldn't be public. It would fall behind a secure membership site, but there would be no guarantee that pirates wouldn't join up. They could then alter the torrent to make it public, but hey, what the heck? This stuff is being shared anyway.

My biggest concern is that people would package other people's stuff and create a torrent without their knowledge or permission. There really needs to be some checks and balances, and I can't see a person like myself doing it alone unless I was paid to do it. I had considered charging $5-$10 per annum membership, enough to stop the fools out there joining up for the sake of it. Content Creators would get free membership.

That may cover the cost of the server, but it wouldn't pay anyone much for the hours they would have to send checking the torrents and entering them into the database. I think there are ways around it but a lot of work is still involved. Advertising revenue is out of the question.

Anyway, to answer your concerns, it's completely legitimate, the system is already in place and it can be done. It just needs a membership site and database, both of which I could establish in hours. The thing it needs most of all, is community support to seed (distribute) the files because this is true P to P file sharing in its purest form.

I too am not a fan of Payware sites, I have bought from Railwaves in the past, a payware site, but due to the ever changing releases of Trainz, they now seem to have given up making any more content or updates for the faulty content they sell.

If I wanted payware I would have bought Railworks, thankfully I now download from the DLS what loco or rolling stock I require, then I reskin it to my desired livery and away I go, it saves me a fortune.

In my opinion, Payware is not the way to go, if everyone started charging for items of rolling stock for trainz, then trainz would die, it's down to our superb content creators who we should thank for there fantastic creations, that makes trainz what it is today, an excellent railway simulation program.

Hope this helps

I am sorry for a few spelling errors
The grammar worries me more, it just doesn't give a professional impression.
All I wanted to do is it HELP and nothing more but its seems that maybe I have been waisting my time. Maybe the fact the UK members have been understanding and supportfull is because they know as well as I do it is so hard to get UK payware and there is bugger all out there compared to MSTS.
Bear in mind you are trying to 'sell' your services to a miniscule group of content creators who apparently have to be resident in the UK and probably already have an E-Shop set up. I don't think it's much of an exaggeration to say that there are probably less than 10 people who could create TS2009/TS2010 standard UK content and about half of those are no longer active.

The only way this is going to work is to try and establish the site as a sort of first step to getting new people to create payware - you are going to have a very hard time convincing people who are already selling stuff.

You are going to have to pay a lot more attention to the details though. How exactly does your E-Shop work? Can you create the admin accounts you'll need? What about the MySQL databases?

Torrent is NOT secure just type in google "trainz payware torrent" guys and you will see that there are thousands of illigal content out there.

The download link is generated after the transaction and is unique and only available via your account in the shop. Why not give it a try with a test download that is on there, its states a penny but it wont charge you. Then you will recieve an email stating the download is available with a link.

I am using the same engine as the music industry use and regarding the homepage I know the HTML is not great as it dosn't need to be at this stage as the shop@ shop.trainzpayware.co.uk has the secure code as well as SSL.

And maybe Febuary is a little hasty but its a challenge!!!!!!! LOL :hehe:

I visited your site and got a lovely little warning message in bright red and yellow telling me that your site is suspicious and that I should leave immediately. I took their advice, not that there was anything to look at anyway.

That might be because the site is already listed at blacklist.spambag.org as a spammer? Bit strange but it happens. I had a site like that a couple of years ago.

For the OP: I see your hosted with a German company, according to the link above?

Also may I suggest you go to Nominet and change your personal details on your registration, as its showing your name & house address at the moment?

I'm not talking about payware Ryan. As I've already said in this thread, the payware providers are already well catered for, both in the in the UK and elseware. I'm referring to freeware only, which as Joe Airtime has pointed out, makes Trainz what it is.

My comments about Torrents were in response to the issues raised by John259. A way of better distributing freeware, but at the same time taking the strain off the DLS.

Although you are entirely correct about Google and "trainz payware torrents", these are of no interest to me. Not only that, they would never end up in a Trainz torrent directory because they are all pirated.

What does that listing mean? It classes my site as the same

Phil

I noticed that when I clicked on your Signature Phil. I'm inclined to think it has something to do with your HTML or the way your host has set up your site. Maybe there's no .htaccess file there. The only threat I concern myself with is the big red one Firefox slams up when a site is suspect. It's still not very nice to see these warnings however. and it must lose you visitors.

John

Ok, thanks for that huys, not sure how to make it stop doing that but Im getting a steady stream of visitors anyway.

Thanks,
Phil
