Trainz Payware NEED feedback

Hi all

I am designing a Payware website just for Trainz. This will be where any one can upload there own content and sell it and earn money, for routes etc...

It would cost £1.99 to sign up for 12 months and you will keep 99% of cost of downloads with unlimted space.

I think I can get this up and running in about 3 weeks and will be called trainzpayware.co.uk.

So say you upload a route and we sell it for £5.00 you will receive £4.95.

This service will not just be for routes but anything you want to sell regarding trainz as a download.

I would love to hear some feed back about this idea.

Thanks Ryan

Ryan a good idea, but I would watch your costs !!

I have a website with 600Mb of content, and 17Gb of content for my customers. Would your 2 quid cover all that ??

I pay $28 (19 quid) a month for my website alone, to get good response times, and guaranteed up-time of 99.5%

Maybe Auran could use your offer, all the DLS hosted for 2GBP, I think they would jump at the chance as a UK mirror (most Trainzers are in Europe)

Sounds like what he wants to do is produce a mini-mart of sorts where content creators can upload and sell there goods in one location instead of having the users needlessly search 20 sites to find what they are looking. To me, as a perspective content purchaser, this is a wonderful idea. I would gladly buy content but since I rarely have time to work on my route the process of searching 20+ websites looking for good stuff is just not in question. Now, if varies content creators had their goods on one site that was really well organized I would gladly give you some of my fiat money. ;)

This might be a good idea. Some thoughts for your consideration:

A reliable simple downloading system.

Obvious categories and names.

No artificial throttling of download speeds.

No restrictions on download allowances per day/week/month.

All content fully tested.

A clear statement of which versions of Trainz each item is compatible with, including a distinction between compatible mode and native mode in TS9 and TS10.

All dependencies for all the assets available on your site are also available.

In other words, all the things that people have been asking to be sorted out with DLS for ages :)

Hi all

Thank you for your feedback.

The reason I came up with this idea is because I struggled myself finding payware content.

The running cost are almost nothing as I have a fantastic deal with a well known hosting site. This would be non profitable and the fee would only cover the low hosting and traffic fees.

There will be NO limit on download speed, NO cap on downloads and all content would be easy found as the idea from john259.

I will get a test page up and running and will invite you to come and have a try out once the site is up and running.

Any more ideas would be great.

Thanks All :D

Ryan

As someone who thinks payware creators should be encouraged, and as someone who has bought much content in the past. I think this is a wonderful idea.

So i wish you much luck and I really hope you get this idea up and running, and you find and encourage enough payware creators to make it work.

Michael:)

I think an issue is one of control. How do you prove that you have passed on all payments to the payware creator and no one has got content for free? Also how stable is it?

Cheerio John

I would sooner buy payware from the creators own website rather than a site run by a middle man, that way if I have any problems
with my purchased item, I can "speak to the man, not the monkey".
Problems do occur with creations in Trainz, and being able to talk to the only person who might have the answer, is a huge advantage.

Thank you Johnwhelan and Blackwatch....

One thought that I had is what are UK laws on "non-profits" and what sort of audit trail would be available for a content creator to see what sales of his/her product have been made.

Also, how would the funds transfers be made?

I think the concept by the OP has merit, but there seem to be a lot of lose-ends.

Regards and have fun,

Ryan, just a few points for you to consider,

You are a brand new member, an unknown quantity.

You have only made three posts, all in the general Trainz area which is open to anybody, so there is no assurance that you even have a registered version of trainz.

This is in no way a slur on your character

Also you would be dealing with oversea's creators, who is going to wear the cost of international bank transfers and the cost of registering a business name (you are charging to handle someone else's money so this will be necessary) and an accountant/auditor, also insurance against fraud, each year

There will be a lot more to consider that I do not know about but you should, please get advice from at least a registered accountant before you go much farther with this, oh and being non-profit does not necessarily mean you don't need all of the above.

Cheers David

Can I just say I have had trainz for 11 years. I was just offering the Trainz Community in the UK a easirer service, then serching google for hours.

Regarding UK laws I can state that I am well up to date with the Internet Business laws and also the security needed to ensure a smooth transaction between the supplier and the buyer.

I must say I am quite shocked at some of the comments from over seas as I can ashore you that this website would not make over £20k a year to be VAT registered in the UK! and if it did "no chance" it would be ligit.

I work for a huge computer media comppany in London but due to health reasons I am unable to return to work after bein left disabled. I have spare time on my hands, and would love to make Trainz easier for people to find Content for like MSTS which I have been a huge fan of but since changing to Windows 7 Dosn't run as well.

FOR THE MEAN TIME THIS SERVICE WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE TO THE UK ( as I have already secured developers to design content to sell on there behalf as they dont have time or money to host there content.)

I understand your comments regarding laws and so on but the EU and UK laws are justifed for my purpose.

Thanks

Ryan

Hi Ryan

Ignore the doom and gloomers who prefer to put a downer on peoples idea's. Rather than encourage!

You seem to be a guy that has already put enough thought in to what you want to do and I for one think its a great idea. And finding away to encourage more content to be created buy giving the creator a financial reward is brilliant.

Michael

That's a very good point. It might be an idea to offer an additional incentive to TS9/TS10 native mode developers.

John

Got it in one John!!!

People would be willing to create more content for new verions of Trainz!!!! Any one will be able to upload and download content for Trainz and charge what ever they like, and even Freewere.

Yes I think an additional incentive to 2009 - 2010 native mode is an excellent idea and a great way of moving Trainz content creation on in to 2010.

Have you thought about making content? Blender is fairly easy.

Doing the research takes a fair bit of time up as well, perhaps you could assist here?

If it wasn't for current DLS problems, I would have suggested Auran do this, a payware DLS.
Content on it would not be usable in any Trainz versions since Auran would split profits with the creators.
Auran might get money from it.
Creators who want some renumeration for certain items would get a few bucks worth and not have to deal with running their own site.
Then maybe with the cash flow from a payware DLS, they could slow down on Trainz releases.

I don't follow your way of reasoning. Why would anybody that doesn't make content already all of a sudden feel the need to create because you offer webspace to them? You have, like many before you, the wrong idea that content creators in general ( there are always a few ) think about creating content as a business. It is a hobby for most and they will create content because they LIKE to. They don't need any other incentive.

A true incentive for creators would be when Auran comes up with better documentation and guidelines for the creation of TS2009+ standard content.
