If you can texture something in blender, you can apply AO to it as well. You just change the render setting to Ambient Occlusion. Its 1 button, seriously! I hope that helped.

Although a bit off topic, wouldn't a full render do the same thing?

I've done that...

But really in most cases you aren't going to be making any quality reskin in a few minutes. Expect any decent reskin to take a few hours, if not days.
