Trainz Helper issues...

HI Guys,

Hope all is well. :-)

I bought Trainz 2004 ages ago for my old lappy running Windows Vista. I had no problems with it and I was able to download new routes and such using the Download helper. However, I have got a new computer now running Win 7 and I'm getting issues. I have tried installing and running as Administrator and when I try to down load, I get error "Unable to find Trainz Installation". Then it bounces into the helper screen. Im trying to download the Monorail layouts for Trainz 2004 and say if I download a monorail cab, it will download as normal and complete. However, if I try to download the Mars V3 layout, it will not work. It continually says retrying and eventually fails and cancels the Download.

Thinking this maybe because of Win7, I am now typing this on the origional laptop (with the smashed screen!) and I've tried reinstalling the game from scratch and downloading the content I want and I'm getting the same issues that I had before. Any ideas please? I've signed in as me on the configurator and such but still no joy and tried everything else I could see on the forum with similar problems but still no joy. I started a new thread as the other ones had been online for a while but sorry if this is sen as rule breaking.

Hope someone can help. :-)

Kindest Regards,

Shaggy

The problem you are likely to be having is that most assets have been updated to Trainz Classics or later standards, which cannot be downloaded by older versions. There is a Download (FTP) option if you don't mind downloading assets one-by-one, which can be accessed by clicking the Download Page option.

P.S. Welcome to the forums.

I see...(I think ;))... So if I buy the Trainz Classics software and put that onto my computer, it should work? Cheers for the super fast response Shane.

Cheers,

I'd personally advise getting TS2009/2010 or TS12 if your system can handle it, as support for that is at least until September 2014, whereas anything below this is unsupported.

Brilliant. Will do. One last thing... if I get one of the above versions, will they run the monorail routes from 2004 I've been trying to download?

Thanks again for your help.

TS2009/2010 should do, as they have compatibility mode. As for TS12, you may have to make changes for it to work in that version.
