Trainz has stopped working - Win8.1

Howdy folks. Ok, this is strange, whenever I exit trainz12 I am getting "trainz has stopped working, please exit the program". Well yeah, I am shutting down. Obviously it is a fault or maybe TS and Win8.1 are not playing well together. Program runs fine, starts up fast etc, just throws the message when TS is shutting down but there is no problem starting it back up afterwards, everything is as it should be.

Taddemon is still running on the taskbar after the message shows, so it isn't a TD issue as far as I can tell.

Anyone else run into this?

Make sure you are running as administrator. If you are still having problems, there are other things to try such as run in Windows 7 Compatibility mode. This is needed for the older Visual C++ libraries which are sometimes "upgraded" with bug fixes and updates, and sometimes modified by other programs that get installed afterwards.

Yep, that was it. Switch to Win7 Comp. and no error, but I noticed it didn't run as fast either, much slower drawing the maps and getting content than when using Win8.1

I noticed that too. It's the downside of emulation and a sacrifice for stability. If you check your Event Viewer and then Applications Log, you can see the exact crash. I've reported this to N3V awhile back, complete with the crash dump files.

Good to know, hopefully all will be well with TANE but I don't think we will see anything done for TS12. I think I am going to go back to 8.1 for it, the speed is worth the crash as long as it isn't corrupting anything, which it does not seem to be doing. Are you running 7 or 8.1 for TS12?

****So now the silly program keeps CTD in surveyor whether in 7 or 8.1, damn gremlins****

Be careful of doing this. I ended up with a database rebuild and validation like crazy until I put in the compatibility mode. Right now I'm testing Windows 10 and running TS12 and T:ANE. Both versions run quite well in the operating system; much faster than they ever did in Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. I did try just admin, but that didn't help.

Gremlins and LGM live in computers and eat software for breakfast. :) It sounds like you need to do a DBR and take it from there.

I have TANE too, but haven't switched it over to my laptop. I had so many problems with it that I gave up, too many error reports that they probably have dozens of.

I will risk 8.1 until it kills my TS12, then go to 7. Haven't even looked at 10 yet, only using 8.1 because it came with my LT but I like it now that I am use to it.

Don't worry about W10 just yet. It's still in beta until sometime next year.

With TANE there's a more recent version out which has much better performance and graphics, but there's still a lot of work to go. You might want to look at that.

Good luck.
