Trainz Community Newsletter

Johnk

Boarded October 2001

Due to an apparent misunderstanding between James Tellman, the editor of Trainz Magazine and myself, the Trainz Resources Directory Newsletter and other vital Trainz Community information was omitted from the latest edition of the Magazine and two earlier issues that were never published.

As such, we have decided to distribute a temporary Newsletter called Trainz Community News to allow you to access the material that was omitted. A small group of Trainz Community members and the Trainz Resources Directory need a regular and reliable publication to bring you important news and information covering many issues including Asset Repair, Content Creation Guides, User Manuals for TS 2009 and TS 2010 and updates to the TRD itself.

Although the information in our current newsletter may not be world shattering, future issues will contain even more material of vital interest to all Trainz users.

If we're able to secure an amicable agreement with James Tellman regarding future releases of Trainz Magazine, this newsletter will be absorbed by that publication. If not, we are prepared to go it alone and bring you a lot of information you've been longing to hear.

Please show your support for the Newsletter by downloading and reading the first edition today. At under a megabyte, you should be able to download it quickly and hopefully find the 24 pages of ad free content entertaining.

You can register for regular updates by filling in the Newsletter Registration form or just subscribe to this thread for future developments.

Its an extremely informative newsletter John, thanks for the information:wave:
I have to say though, Im surprised that my route screenshot meshed with the rest of the comp Pics:hehe: , I was thinking it was going to be a sore thumb.:o

good work as always,

cheers,

Really guys, if there is an issue between two Trainzers, I am sure they can work it out between themselves and a better Product will be forthcoming, but then this Forum is the place for the end Product, not the personal discussion.

Cheers

AJ

Excellent!

Hi

Well written, well presented it's a good and useful read.

I don't see any reason why the two titles can't work in the same market. For my money they represent two different aspects of Trainz. I subscribe to both now but to be honest "Trainz Magazine" I seldom read because the content generally doesn't interest me having scanned the ToC. I am interested mainly in the more technical articles and the newsletter better fits that profile.

I don't post screen shots or upload routes because I have a fair amount of payware content. However if you are short of copy for your competition drop me a PM and I'll see if there is anything I can offer that is up to standard.

I recently wrote a tutorial for using Disc shunting signals in Trainz and posted a request for somebody to check it for accuracy before I made it available. No takers only a lot of "lookers" so if you are short of copy in the future and don't mind proofing it you can have it or bin it. Again PM me.

Best of luck and I for one hope you keep going independently.

Regards

Martin

P.S. A couple of links I tried are not available. One is the "Subscription" link on the first page. It may be me but it could impact on your uptake if it's not.

Thank your all for your comments folks. It will continue one way or another and I'd ask everyone to respect AJ's remarks.

I'd particularly like to thank you Martin for bringing up the issue of dead links. I've just changed over to Win 7 on a new computer and some of my regular programs aren't working as well as they should. Thus I swung over to Corel Draw which has a good, but not perfect Desktop Publishing feature. I wasn't able to work out how to handle Hyperlinks, so anything that went to two lines was broken.

Thanks to Martin, I did some research and found that there was a way. The links should all now work, but better still, they should take you directly to the page concerned and not just the site.

I also compressed the file as much as possible to save bandwidth for all concerned. In so doing, Corel Draw reverted to Web Safe fonts, which of course I didn't use. As such, you were all seeing something completely different than me, depending on which fonts you have installed of course.

I've converted everything back to Times Roman, so if any of you have a copy that looks a bit strange, may I suggest you download it again.

Finally. Martin I will PM you because the Trainz Resources Directory will gladly host your tutorials and I can also paginate them for inclusion in a magazine.

Thanks alo to all who are subscribing. I'll be passing your emails over to Trainz Magazine for their mailing list. If you're already subscribed to TM, please avoid ticking the TM box if you can. This could end up creating duplicated subscriptions on the TM database.
