Trainz Classics Selling where?

Fitz505

Grouchy Old Geezer
I've been checking a bunch of the big box stores locally here in upstate NY and nobody seems to have heard of it. Nothing on any of the web sites (coming soon!) either. Anyone know where it is going to be sold or is this a mail order only purchase?

John

Yup, that I'm aware of. I was planning on buying it over the counter, so to speak, hence the question, is it mail order only or is it going to be sold retail also. Nobody in my area of the woods, seems to have heard of it.

John

Distribution of Trainz Classic is an interesting question. TRS2006 had regional distribution and regional websites. As there has been little updating of the UK website, I'm guessing (please note this is total unfounded speculation :) ) that the regional system has been quietly dropped.

The UK Just Trains version will be called Trainz Railways according to this page on the train-sim.com web site.

I just looked and I couln't find any mention of Trainz Classics or Trainz Railways on the Just Trains web site, amazon.co.uk, amazon.com, merscom.com (the US distributor), or walmart.com. I know it's not yet released but it is perhaps surprising not to find any "coming soon" notices.

John

Interesting. When I originally posted the question, I expected a bunch of replies with a list of retail outlets expected to sell it. Seems to be some sort of state secret ( I can tell you the name of the store, but then I will have to shoot you, LOL).
Unless I've missed something somewhere, a simple post from Auran as to it's distribution would be helpful.

John

Surely it will be available from some retail outlet? If it's only available through Auran net sales, that would be quite a step backwards; as I see it.

Probably be like TRS06....the initial release was to pre-orders and online orders....it didn't hit stores until sometime later. Reading the newsletters and posts, I don't see anything about the release date of July 9th as TC hitting the shelves then...

Would Trainz Classic be suitable for someone who used to run Trainz 2004?

I am looking to get back into Trainz again. I realy prefer prototypical layouts and would like to run Classic trains like the Union Pacific Big Boys in addition to. I have upgraded to a fairly high end computer with 2 x 8800 GTS cards SLied. I am just not sure whether to get this Trainz Classics, get the earlier Trainz 2006 or wait for Microsofts effort due out at end of year (so they say).

The rail simulator being developed by Kuju stands a good chance of making it by the end of 2007, but on development evidence for the new Microsoft rail sim (four blogs) I think that end of 2008 would be optimistic for their offering.

Newest title in popular Trainz series to ship in October

Merscom to release Trainz Railwayz
CHAPEL HILL, NC - July 10, 2007 - Merscom announced today that it will publish the PC title Trainz Railwayz for North American retail. Trainz Railwayz will combine two new titles in the Trainz line of games, and will also include as an extra bonus the best-selling Trainz Railroad Simulator (modified to be compatible with Windows Vista™). Available late fall in major retail locations, the game, which is actually three complete games, will retail for only $19.99.

Trainz Railwayz includes two new titles from the Trainz line of games: Harlem Line Edition and the Metropolis Edition.

The Harlem Line Edition is a representation of New York's Harlem Line. Activities will consist of historically accurate commuter and departmental operations typical of those seen from the early 80s to the present day. Each session is designed to reflect the real-life atmosphere of the locality and the services.

The Metropolis Edition, designed by Roger Cabo, is among the most stunning displays of Trainz ever created, focused on a modern city tramway and with beautifully realistic graphics.

"Trainz Railroad Simulator was a tremendous success last year, selling over 50,000 copies, and I am sure Trainz Railwayz will resonate even better both with traditional gamers and train enthusiasts," said Lloyd Melnick, Chief Customer Officer for Merscom. "Trainz Railwayz is a great bundle, combining two stunning new games with a hit title. It is a great value for either someone new to the Trainz franchise or somebody already enjoying Trainz."

"We are very excited about the release of our new series because it will appeal to both our loyal online following and also to our more casual users," said Graham Edelsten, Director of Auran Games. "Trainz Railwayz is a great collection that allows users to simulate unique periods in railroad history while still having a great time. Whether users are just beginning or have been playing Trainz for years, Trainz Railwayz provides seemingly endless amounts of entertainment."

Right......

Microsoft Train Simulator has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Indeed!....my favorite error message of all time...
Hopefully there will always be some other train sim in the works somewhere....hate to see the complainers left without greener grass...

That has to be one of the funniest (unintentionally?) Wiki entries...:D

The article states the product, the developer and the release date (as Sept 2007).

The top of the listing is "This product is unreleased software, please do not add speculation"
Perhaps the release date isn't speculation....
