Trainz Classic should I or shouldn't I ?

I am currently running TRS06, am primarily interested in UK steam, prefer animated junctions, enjoy building routes / content, and prefer DCC or AI to cab control. However being a bear of little brain, I am confusd over TC3.

What would TC3 give me that TRS06 wouldn't?

I know there have been a few threads on this and similar questions, but these are spread far and wide through the forum, can anyone put it in black and white for me?

Thanks in anticipation

Basically it's just an evolution from TRS2006 so one or two less undocumented features ie better sound, etc. With TC 1/2 Chris reckons he gets a frame a second more, it seems to run a little smoother on my machine. Paul Hobbs seems to be creating some rather nice vans for it and I understand there maybe be some minor but interesting enhancements. Have a look through the TC3 UK website, Mike10 has given a recent link to it.

My vote says buy.

For me as a UK steam fan as well, TC3 looks very interesting. I do like the post made by Lance that they are or seem to be revisiting the steam loco side of the simulation. I think this alone will make TC3 a considerable advancement over previous Trainz versions.

I have TC 1&2 on the shelf right now (not installed), and I'm not a big UK train fan. But I love everything steam and would be lying if I said TC3 didn't interest me for the steam enhancements alone.

The thing is regardless of what people think or whant TC is the way Trainz is going to go, now I have TC running, have had for some time as I was with the beta testing team, now for me TC appears to run things somwhat smoother than in 06, ( routes that caused stuttering in 06 run OK in TC) and I have not changed the computer specs, as for the said sound improvements I cant say that I have noticed any difference worth mentioning, ( only that in TC I can hear the wagons unloading at the power station even when I am in another engine some 150KM away!!!and its very load, much more than in 06, when I get time I will take a look it the files for this maybe the volume cane be decreased ?) I am at the moment slowly moving my 06 content into TC, its not without some problems as for some reason some items dont like TC or TC dont like them, but bit by bit I am getting there, and for most of the time its the content that is at fault not TC, things that passed in 06 will not pass in TC without some work, but then this was the same with moving 04 content to 06.

The main thing I see that worrys people with regard to TC is that each release will include the base engine, so if you have 1+2 and then buy 3 you are paying again for the base trainz system, (+ any upgrades they may have made) maybe they should make future issues with just the new route and any updated to the system, ( like a service pack ) so you could buy say just the route an upgrade to the last issue or buy the complete setup if you are a first time buyer, but then that Auans buisiness and note it is a buisiness and needs to promote cash otherwise it would be shelved,

The thing that worrys me slightly is this continuing upgrade ( or possible upgrades ) that would ship with future releases, they have to be carefull that say I buy 3 but not 4/5/6/7 and then buy 8 I would be missing updates from those not bought and maybe my system will be missing a file from those that the upgrade in 8 will require, and so my upgrade would fail or give me problems.

Sorry if I have ranted on here but you did ask, anyway I think TC is worth buying, and hopfully will improve as it goes forward, its already an improvement on 06 althou theres a long way yet to go with some things

anyway its for you to decide in the end
the main thing is to enjoy

Many thanks to all of the above for some useful info. I think I have made up my mind and will go ahead once TC3 is avaiable.

Thanks again

We'll be updating it regularly as things progress.

Mike.

Just wanted to ask Mike, as I cannot find anything relevant to read about this, if assets are being created using TRS2006 SP1, as I and no doubt a few others, don't have this installed on our PC's/Laptops at present, and may never be able to. Will this preclude me from purchasing TC3 please ?? I didn't buy TC1/2 so have no way of knowing.

Thankz. ex-railwayman.

P.S. Very nice touch of having Alistair's photograph on the site may I say...

Why should not having TRS2006 SP1 stop you from buying TC3? TC3 will be able to use any 'sane' content from TRS2004/TRS2006 and TC1 and 2.

I think it was posted elsewhere in the forum that each installment of TC includes the build features but obviously not the content from the previous version, in much the same way that you can apply TRS06 to a computer that has UTC but never had TRS04 (though in this example the content was included).

ex-railwayman - I don't think not having TRS06 should cause you any problems for the reasons noted above.

I was worried Paul, that if creators were generating new assets using SP1 that I wouldn't be able to play with TC3 on my version of TRS2006, just as I am unable to download any new layouts off the DLS from people using SP1, which regrettably I find very displeasing. However, you have now set my mind at rest, so thank you sir...

If you buy TC8 you will have all the new features and code updates from TC1-7 but only the content from TC8. I

f you don't have TRS2006 and buy TC3 you will have problems with missing assets as you'll only have the assets from TC3 and not all the 'legacy' content that most routes on the DLS require.

TC3 will be a standalone, you won't 'play it on TRS2006'.
You can add your content from '06 into TC3 though.

Have a look at the FAQs page on the website for more details and come back if you still have questions.

hi.

I'm using trs2004, but I'm looking for reasons to upgrade to Trainz classics. Isaw on TC website that it has somekinda improced road traffics and more freeways/multilane traffics.

If that's true, I will buy it at this very second. Any screenies from TC road traffic??

I get the impression TC3 is the one for Steam etc improvements and also has the TC1/2 improvements in the core engine.
