Hi Adam

Thanks for your comments!

Yes your quite correct :) It is Darlington Bank Top.

I was building it, as I remember it as child (1970 onwards). But got carried away and now I'm building it as it was in the 50 & 60's

I'm very happy that you recognised it from my screenshots. Which means it must be looking ok :)

Wouldn't know myself as i was born in 1985, Just used to spend hours with the late grandad at Bank Top every weekend watching the then brand fire new Class 91 do its part for Intercity.

Alot of what you have there is now gone though as i have read from books and learnt from the above mentioned grandad and now my train mad farther-in-law.

Shame the bay platforms you have in the screenies are a taxi rank and car park now.
I recently read in 'RAIL' Magazine that there is speculation about building another platform opposite Platform 1.
to serve grand central and a proposed metro link.

I'm on the North Road end of Darlington, you?

I grew up in Denes area, infact I lived in Surtees Street, around the corner from North Road Station. Which Is why I have many memories of platform 5 & 6 at Bank Top. As we used to get the train to Bank Top from North Road, to do our trainspotting.
Then we used to see class 55's on the services now drawn by the 91's and we used to see the prototype HST sitting in platform 4a on test. Which is now in the National Railway museum.
I think the new platform opposite platform 1 has now been abandoned due to cuts.

Type 5 DP1 is now at Shildon NRM.
Myself, father in law and the others half kid went to York and forgot at the time that Mallard and DP1 had been moved to Shildon.
A shame, but we enjoyed the rest of the day.

My father in law used to be part of the Darlington Railway Preservation society, he's been asked to return to help with the restoration of 78018.
I'm thinking of joining him should he return.

Ekin1972, you'll have to keep us informed of your progress this is a great example of Darlington in the 1970's.
If i were to join the DRPS i'd be introducing them to trainz and the idea of promoting Trainz at open days.
Your layout would be great for something like that.

I'm on with a fictional layout but stealing many of Darlingtons area names for stations, juntions, companies,ect...

I'll stick a post up when i feel its time.
Keep up the excellent work, i'm very quickly becoming a follower.
(no doubt we've walked past each other in town at some point)

Ekin, According to the father-in-law your missing a turn table that was at the bottom of Green Street.
He's insistant on it, as he used to live in Green Street as a child.

Example: Pics 8 & 9

Unless he is mistaken at it was down the side of the shed which you don't have any pics of.
If you could post any pics to shut him (lol) it'd be welcome.

Hi Adam.

Your father is correct and it was something I meant to put in later. But like I said earlier, the steam shed was a last minute addition that I hadn't had chance to do much research on, until after I had placed the shed. The shed was well before my time and I had no memory of it, as I did the rest of Bank Top.

But In the mean time. Disaster has happened and my computer caught fire and has had to be re built with many new parts. This unfortunately didn't give me chance to save the route. So its all lost!! :'(

But thanks for your comments :)

Hi Michael

Perhaps this is an opportunity to rebuild and refresh the route.
My Father in law is a wealth of infomation when it comes to the sheds in and around Darlington.
He has a habbit of rambling on when he starts though.

It is a real shame about your computer catching fire though.
hope things start to look better soon.
