Hi this is Daniel's mum, I need some help please. I bought Daniel the game for
Christmas. I bought it at the beginning of Novenber. Everytime he try's playing the game it works for a while then blacks out sometimes it comes back sometimes he has to close down. We have no idea what is going on with it. Oh he is playing it on his new laptop so there shouldn't be any problems with it.

It may be several things, and it's hard to tell from the information you have. I think there is a log file somewhere that will give more specific details on what the problem is, but I don't know where that is. Hopefully, someone else will.

My suggestion, however, is to open the "options" in the startup menu and go to "Display settings". Here you have the choice between DirectX and OpenGL. I have no clue what this is, or what it does, but I have seen others experiencing trouble with one or the other, depending on graphic cards and other hardware specifications. I don't know which one yours is set at, but try the other one. Again, I don't know if it will work, but it won't harm to try. If it doesn't work, simply switch back.

Could it be the screen saver or a power saving option on the laptop?

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC and I noticed that if I don't interact with the PC (mouse or keyboard) for a while the screen goes black. Laptops tend to have more power saving options than desktop PCs.

From memory, I think the OpenGL/DirectX problem is characterised by a white screen rather than black.

I forgot to add that when installing the program, Trainz runs a diagnostic program that checks to see if the target computer has adequate resources for the program. If you want to run it again, it is "TrainzDiag.exe" and is located in the ..\Auran\TS2010\bin directory. This is usually in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) area.

I have had the same issue! Unfortunately, I do not know the cause.

When you say it blacks out, does it drop back too the desk top? if so and you are running windows 7 this may be your problem, a lot of people are unaware that if you put your curser in the right corner of the task bar windows 7 drops back to the desktop, taking the curser out of the corner returns you to your program.
