Trainz 2010 plus service pack 1 only, runs as smooth as in dx unbelieveable , even with 60 loco's on the track all with stock running ,it is so good plus the water is spot on super fast loading on a huge map no lag at all and the temp of the ATI 5970 is sitting at a nice 54 c with no air con on in the room,ATI 5970 is a must
spec
xfx x58i motherboard
i7 930 2.8 ghz CPU
12 GB Coirsar DDR3 RAM
1 Sapphire ATI 5970 VIDEO CARD
Cooler master full tower this case fitted the video card in easy $250.00
1500 watt power silverstone
24 inch ASUS monitor VK246H HDMI

mmm.. I am running right now to the store to get my 12 Gb DDR and super CPU, not forgetting of course the 1500 watt power supply.. !

Really. That rig is awesome, but I gotta be straightforward - as someone who is gearing up to develop some routes, it's a major turn-off to tell me and prospective users of them that they'll need a $2,000+ machine in order to enjoy them.

As if I wasn't agonizing over deciding whether to develop for 2004 v. 2010 as it is...

The question is what do dual GPU’s do for performance in TS2010 or any other version of Trainz? I’ve used Nvidia’s SLI and ATI’s Cross Fire in the past and they’ve done nothing to help performance of primarily CPU dependent games like Trainz.

Unless you are running very high resolution (2560x1600 as an example) with high levels of AA there is no benefit of a dual GPU video card over a single high end GPU. Without a Cross Fire profile for TS2010 the performance would most likely be less than what you’d get with a 5870.

Really im not the person to talk to about tech and specs , all i know is that my hardware plays trainz 2010 like a dream would like to see if 5870 could run this route i am on the same as 5970 every setting is maxed out and it is still smooth as ,,as for me stating my hardware specs often people ask what is your rig so i saved time and wrote it down in the thread nothing more than that ,i was sick of waiting for nvidia to get there act together so i went and brought the 5970 that would do a better job than my 2 nvidia gtx 9800+ and it does by a long shot

If 5970 2gb was not better than 5870 1gb why then did they bother to build it at all ? the 5970 has 3200 Stream Processors 5870 has 1600

That's great that it's running TS2010 “like a dream” but so does the 5870 and the GTX 285.

The question is though, does the 5970 perform any better in TS2010 then the 5870 or the GTX 285?

Simple, for games engines that actually take advantage of the GPU and are not CPU dependent.

That's 1600 Stream Processors for each GPU and it's only 3200 Stream Processors total if the game can utilize both GPU's.

You have to remember that the 5970 is just two slower clocked 5870's on one board, so if the game can't take advantage of both GPU's (and without a Cross Fire profile for TS2010 it's not going to anyway) the performance can and does end up being slower than it would with a single GPU card.

i give your question to the guys in Anandtech there answer is ,,
it's way better. atm, it's basically 2 5870's with 5850 clock speeds without being overclocked ,anyone who believes it is not is a fool

i have tested on my 2 nvidia cards in TS2010 and i dont get any performance difference in SLI or not. the only difference i can see on my mobile system is the heat coming out the rear :)
SLI can cause some flickering of the menu boxes and pop up tips.
SLI AA modes look better to me than anything else.

There you go, 2x 5850's just like I explained above, and if the game engine can't use both GPU's (which TS2010 doesn't) you are only using one GPU on the 5970. In other words for CPU dependent games it's no better (actually slower) than a 5870.
