Any ideas on what's happening?

I have two.

1. Try DirectX mode as this issue has arisen from the OpenAL module.
2. Try the following steps with a similar problem encountered by another user
1) in Trainz install directory locate the OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll files

2) Rename OpenAL32.dll to OpenAL32.bak

3) Rename wrap_oal.dll to OpenAL32.dll

4) Launch as Admin by using the Trainz.exe

Cheerio,
Nicholas

Nicholas, I'll give that a try...Thank you!
Zelda, In my frantic search for a solution yesterday, I did see, but lost, a mention that the game registers improperly through Steam. I looked on the Trainz site for a place to register, but found nothing. Will try your link so you won't lose any sleep over uncertainties as to my possible nefarious nature.

Ignore him, he isn't even providing any help for you and just wants to cause stress. I will help you register your serial since you would like to.
You must login to your Planet Auran account. Under that site, you may register your serial.
If you need more direct instruction, just ask and I'll be happy to help.

Cheers!

If it's through Steam, look for a CD Key option on the main description screen where it shows the game image, then copy that CD Key (serial number) into the form accessed via the link posted above by Zelda. This will basically confirm that you have a valid copy of Trainz, and will give you access to the technical support part of the forums as well as the Download Station.

In the meantime if you can't get that to work...
I'd delete the Trainz folder in your Steamapps folder and attempt to re-download it. Sometimes Steam downloads get messy for whatever reason. I find myself doing it every once in a blue moon for Team Fortress 2.

Thanks, both. I tried the re-download last night. Same issues followed. I just did the boy's link and input the serial. I tried Nicholas' solution but had to delete the .bak file because Win 7 didn't let me fully rename it. It ended up being a .bak.dll. The wrap file is still sought after by the program...
