Trains Simulator 9 and X

Hi Jim,

The specs have not been announced yet. It has been hinted that TRS2009 will have much the same specs as earlier versions. Same people running TC3 content and route report an improvement in framerate. Trainz X is still a mystery, I've heard no details about it.

Those that have bothered to download the Alpha versions off the Dev site seem to say that the frame rates are better, but I'm not convinced there's enough of a cross-section of people to give a real idea.

LotharHake has just posted a thread on this forum showing some worrying things (do a search).

Some of them may well be down to it still being in development, but the worrying ones for me (in his thread) are the pictures that show the draw distance not showing everything earlier versions did, and the one that shows the frame rate drop drastically when he moves, even though he's only got several lengths of track on the board.

I might download it myself this week, and do some of my own tests.

Smiley.

There's always a problem of allowing people to talk about pre-release versions of software. The idea of the current builds is primarily to provide content creators the ability to test new content in the game. We're about to go into Beta testing where people can report problems relating to performance etc.

The reason we're not in Beta yet is that we're not finished developing all the systems such as draw distance, LOD (level of detail) systems and so on.

We're confident that the final product will perform the same or better running an old map in the new version. We're also confident that you will get performance improvements when using new assets (as long as they meet the content creation guidelines).

If your computer runs older versions of Trainz well, then you'll have no problems running 2009. As with older versions, if content creators add too much density to a scene or use inefficient content, then Trainz will run slowly, even on good hardware.

Which I did mention above when I said:

Glad to see you've posted a reply to Lothar.

As a programmer, I'm wondering how you managed to optimise the code so much that you can now throw around larger textures and many more polys.
Was the original Trainz code really that inefficient? :p

I wish you good luck with it, and hope you can get it to run as well as you say, but don't forget to pay attention to the little things.

:D

Are You sure? When I see the FPS with Your system here,
I will become dizzy.
Absolutely. But whats about Your Object guidelines?
