I'll go first:
"The Crossing"
The lights were already red when I reached the crossing. I was first in line; a triumph of a late night commute.
The gates were down, clicking and blinking at me while I turned the ignition off.
The engine ponderously entered the crossing, it's headlamp blazing like a headlamp on an engine.
The locomotive may have been moving at 10MPH, but it was hard to tell, as I was sitting in my car.
The rails squealed and banged as each car moved in front of me from left to right.
I could see the headlights from the cars driven by other people on the other side of the tracks, but only between each rail car as they passed.
Wink, the headlights shown, blink, they disappeared, wink, blink for what had to be 20 minutes.
I was late for work. My head ached, and my wife and my girlfriend met at my son's soccer game today....
The train finally finished crossing and I started my car again, since I already had started it earlier, but then turned it off.
The gate began to rise, but then stopped and came back down again. The lights continued to blink as the headlamps from those other cars stared into my retinas.
There must be another train coming on the other track, I thought. I turned off my ignition again.
I got out of my car and contemplated placing my ear on the rails to see if I could tell how far away the train was........
