Trains for Mac

First question - have you registered it with Auran/N3V?

If you have, the Trainz Mac forum should contain the answers you need.

Hi, sorry for being a dummy, but can somebody direct me to the Trainz Mac forum? Can't seem to find it...

I'm intereserted in buying Trainz Mac. I got a brand new Mac only about 4 weeks ago, but as I am on a budget, it's not a top of the range model. I see it only has a Core i3 processor, while the games requires i5. Does that mean what I fear? *gutted* :'(

Here it is:

i5 is an option for the recommended. So is Core 2 Duo.

Here are some Macs that meet the recommended specifications:

iMac
MacBook Pro

I would recommend any of the iMacs. MacBook Pros do the same thing as an iMac except they are portable and can go with you. All depends on your needs.

Your current Mac will work with Trainz.

DaSmith75, do you really think it would work?

Here are the specs of my iMac:
OSX 10.6.8
iMac11,2
Intel Core i3
3,06 Ghz
Processors: 1
Cores: 2
4 GB RAM
Video: ATI Radeon HD 4670
VRAM 256MB

It *does* work, though performance is worse than the same hardware under windows boot camp.

Until yesterday I was playing on a five-year old gen 1 MacPro with 8GB ram and 4 cores with an NVidia 8800GT video. It was playable and fun so long as I kept the draw distance down to 1500 and the fog fairly high. Your hardware is much newer than this.

I've also played on my laptop, an 15" MacBook Pro with 4GB and Nvidia 330M video. Performance is about the same as the Mac Pro and that laptop is a year+ old.

I *just* upgraded the desktop to a 27" iMac with 12GB ram and 4x i5 cores with ATI 6970 video yesterday. On this machine the performance is 4x or 6x better and i can play at 1080p with everything turned on and up.

I most certainly think it would work. I used to run Trainz 2010 on a Pentium D! It would work on basic routes. NormP's Gold Coast and South Brisbane routes with trains everywhere it would freeze up all the time.

I now have a i7 and GTX550 and it's real smooth!

Core i3 is better than a Core 2 Duo which is apart of the recommended specs. If you really have to. Buy the game from a store and if it doesn't work then take it back.

Fixed?

Just installed this. Keeps crashing after the get started screen, any Odessa what's wrong.

Geoff

Geoff,

I haven't purchased it yet... did you ever get it working?

And two... do I understand that I can't see the Mac Trainz forum until I DO purchase and register Trainz for Mac??

Thanks.

Correct - you must have a valid version of Trainz registered in order to access the Maintenance of Way forums, which is where the Trainz Mac forum is.

Thanks for the reassurance, people. I'll buy Trainz Mac beginning of august then. Hopefully there'll be a boxed version by then.

Trainz for Mac - It's been a disaster! HELP!

Okay - so I downloaded Trainz for Mac, which took 10 hours, and very excitedly installed it.

Now it won't do anything. Similarly to the original poster, you get to the main menu, but then any choices of tutorials or routes causes the application to crash unexpectedly. The only thing that does work is the Railyard - whoopeedo.

I have a MacBook with Duo Core Intel Processor and 4Gb RAM. No matter what settings I use (lowest possible quality on all graphics options included), it crashes out.

Any advice would be gratefully received!
