Track Length

How do you work out the total length of track on a route?Trainzmap can give distances form Anchor to a point.
Thats fine for mainline.
But is there any way to get total length of track on a route/map in total which includes all yards branches industries etc.

User sforget has a Track Scanner on the DLS. Place two of the units on a track to get the total distance between.

Couple of limitations - it won't read past a Mocrossing object, and (not certain but iirc) all spline turnouts have to be set to the route being measured...

Andy :)

Andy, that Track Scanner sounds like a winner, much better that what I've been doing anyways. Just downloaded it and will try it right away.

What is a Mocrossing object?

Mo...tor...crossing: A place where a street or road crosses the tracks, usualy protected by barriers with lights and bells. There is another excellent tool called "view ahead" (rule), that allows the driver of the loco to "see" what is ahead, switches, signals, speed limits, etc. This tool also does not see pass a "mocrossing".

Thanks.
Well, oddly enough, I just re-measured a stretch (a loop) and it has 3 "mocrossings", but track scanner came up with pretty much the same number I did (the tedious way with the yard stick).

I'll have a look at that "view ahead" as well.

With the track scanner, does it make any difference which way the object is pointing, or does it always seek out the second scanner and tell you the distance between them? And, do loops at the end of the line confuse it?

Actually, I'm not sure what it does, because I noticed it will measure also with only one scanner, and I did a loop with no problem.

Anyway, I was just told in another thread to add "Display custom HUD" in "edit session rules", and THAT is the way to go. It adds an odometer to your HUD, so you can just drive the section or the whole route and you'll know the distance, cool! Has a few more little neat features as well.
