Town Cut In Half

Bah. This is a lame excuse to use precious News time. Big yellow rail-cars ruining their town. Hell, the Town of Victor NY, is in a similar situation, where literately a mile and half long block of Auto-racks are sitting on the former Lehigh Valley main. There were no real industries that required service beyond where they sit, so its not a bother! I dont know why these people complain, if you want to really do something about it, here's a few good tips.
1. BUY AMERICAN CARS. These foreign Imports from japan and China, and Where-ever they come from are useless crap boxes designed so that the Chinese get richer from the crap they make that we sadly buy.
2. Know who your electing into office. Just because Obama promised change doesn't mean it'll come any time soon. Maybe in the next 20 years. Bush was no better. He was the idiot who signed the massive tax breaks to allow the big businesses of America to go to China and India to where the Cheap labor is, to produce crappy goods. I can't buy a toy for my 5yr old nephew without worrying that he's going to get Lead, or some other type of poisoning from it.

Don't like my opposition? DEAL WITH IT.
I am entitled to my opinion.
/end rant.

Just clearing up something hear real quick. For number one, here are the car companies that you should buy from.
General Motors
Toyota(Japanese owned, USA constructed.)

They are the only fully American made car companies left.

It is my understanding that my 2008 Ford Taurus is assembled in the US.
To get these auto racks working again is not just a domestic car production issue. When times are good, i.e. people are buying cars, solid blocks of loaded auto rack depart the Port of Tacoma loaded with imports for dealers across the US. Mazda comes to mind and VW from the east coast and/or Mexico.
I would think a lot of stuff rides the rails out of Mexico.

Its a "money" thing. Leasing/renting these tracks through this town makes "whom ever" X amount of $$. So screw the town, the poeple, etc.
If they were flat cars, dbl stacks, maybe the out cry would not be so great, but auto racks are like a wall. I do feel for the town and its people.

Can the railroad not lease a portion of a yard in the same manner? If they can take the trouble to cut up the train at the grade crossings, why can they not cut the train and shunt them onto the sidings? Is rail through the center of a town any more beneficial for storing freight cars than any other piece of rail?

I agree, but I can only assume that maybe the yards are full and they have had to use this track and many others that are not normaly used for storage. You can bet the railroad is getting so many $$ per day/week/month to store these cars and they are not going to pass up a chance at free money. No ware and tear, just baby sit them.

Maybe. But I still strongly disbelieve that all of CSX's yards are full.
When people buy a home beside the railroad, most would appreciate thousand-ton intermodals or thundering whatever, not a long line of yellow autoracks. A disused line is a rather poor excuse. Not that complaining or posting on forums is going to help alot, but that's just my two cents.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

Reliability and quality are whats wrong with the American Auto Industry. Ford can say whatever they want in a commercial, but a Toyota is far higher quality then a Ford. Toyota's last forever, and are very reliable if you take care of it.

Hello Klinger
As a person who has worked on cars for over twenty years I find comments like this about Ford, GM or Chrylser's quality hard to fathom. I have worked on Australian, American, English, Japanese, Taiwanese and European built cars and trucks of practically every manufacturer out there and to be honest with you the most unreliable vehicles and most mechanic un-friendly vehicles have been built by the Japanese companies ie Toyota Nissan etc with the exception of Mazda and that I think is because of the huge influence Ford has had on Mazda since Ford rescued Mazda from oblivion.

I find that every quality aspect of the American big three's vehicles are better by far than especially Toyota. My nephew owned a Toyota Landcruiser, it is now sitting in a field rusting away. My sister owns a Toyota Landcruiser and almost every week she is asking me to fix something on it. Both have sworn never to purchase Toyota's again. I own a Ford Ranger and have never had a problem with it. Prior to that I owned a Ford Courier and also never had a problem. I have a Ford Falcon and other than a new alternator that was made in Japan I never had a problem with it (replaced the alternator with a German made one:)). I also have a Ford F100 that had a factory fitted Japanese motor. It is currently siting in my shed with a non-working Japanese motor.

At the end of the day you will get lemmons with any manufacturer's vehicle especially if you buy second hand as you really do not know the history of the vehicle and how hard it has been driven or did you really buy the "Only driven to church on Sunday by a little old lady" routine:)

I don't know of a mass produced vehicle out there that is totally made in any one country. I think you will find that no matter what manufacturer you look at it will contain parts from all over the world.

Oh and one more thing, Ford are not the ones doing the quality testing. It is done by independent testing labs. Ford are simply repeating what the labs are saying and that is Ford's quality exceeds that of the Japanese. I believe also in the same tests that GM and Chrylser's quality was also on a par with the Japanese.

NOTE: I am not bashing the Japanese with my comments above I am only stating what I have seen from experience.

Regards

Phil

I cannot believe no one has reported this thread. Yes it started out as a railroad topic but now we are talking about different nations and their autos?

Cheers
